The return of the historic A. Lange & Sohne Centennial Tourbillon
A. Lange & Sohne is renowned as one of the most distinguished watchmakers from Saxony on the market today, but life hasn’t always been smooth sailing. As a witness and victim of the vicissitudes of German history over the past two centuries, the destiny of the brand has come full circle. From its foundation in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolf Lange in Glashutte to its destruction during WWII, and from its expropriation after the war to its miraculous resurrection after Germany’s reunification in 1990 by the founder’s great-grandson, A. Lange & Sohne has taken a circuitous path but is now safely home. Today, A. Lange & Sohne is celebrating another return, this time marked by the return of a valuable pocket watch that was lost in the turmoil following WWII to its rightful place in the Museum Bautzen.Known as the “Centennial Tourbillon”, this exquisite gold pocket watch with a miniature enamel painting of the goddess Minerva was one of only a few tourbillo
Live from SIHH 2019 - Wilhelm Schmid of A. Lange & Sohne - Monochrome Watches
In our latest video coverage of SIHH 2019, our editor-in-chief Frank Geelen sits down with Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne. Find out which of the five watches unveiled during the SIHH 2019 will go down as collector's pieces, and why 2019 is such a special year for some models of the Saxon brand. The star of the SIHH 2019 is the Lange 1 25th Anniversary, the brand's undisputed icon for the last quarter century and, according to Schmid, the backbone of our business. The Lange I Anniversary watch goes back to its roots and is presented in a 38.5mm white gold with blue printed markings on the different levels and surface treatments of the dial.? The watch also pays homage to the two men who put ALS back on the map, and the names of Walter Lange and Gunter Blumlein are engraved on the white gold hinged hunter caseback. The movement also features special anniversary treats, and with its limitation of just 250 timepieces, this is clearly targeted at collectors. The?Datograph Perpe
IWC Re-Engineers Ingenieur for 2013! - Monochrome Watches
Progress can be an unsentimental and unforgiving thing. Sometimes we must move on and forsake the past in anticipation of the future. Fortunately for IWC and their Ingenieur line - the past is not such a bad thing!? Instead of obliterating it IWC have chosen to evolutionize it!To hardcore watch fans, few names elicit a primal response like the IWC Ingenieur. Drawing back to the middle of the last century - the Ingeniuer was IWC's show piece. With it's Albert Pellaton designed bidirectional movement, IWC was able to enter the vanguard of sports watchmakers circa 1955. Over the past 58 years the line of watches and it's movement have been steadily refined and improved. For 2013 IWC have just taken the wraps off of a freshly redesigned Ingeniuer line-up; the new pieces look just that - new, but the family lineage going back the fabled Ref. 1832, penned by one of the most important and influential watch designers of all time - Gerald Genta. The 2024 Paris Olympics, which will start later this week, mark 92 years of Omega‘s legacy as the official timekeeper for the Games. Since 1932 and for the 31st time, the Omega Timing team, with its unparalleled expertise, extensive personnel, and tons of equipment, will support the competing athletes. To truly grasp the extent of Omega’s involvement and the cutting-edge technology they bring to the table in 2024, I urge you to delve into “the insane technology behind the timekeeping role,” as detailed by Frank Geleen earlier this month. This technology, including a Quantum Timer with a resolution of one-millionth of a second, might seem far removed from modern mechanical chronographs. Still, the connection to sports timing remains clear and exhilarating.Omega track and field starting blocks with built-in sensorsThis brings us to the new and exciting Paris Olympics 2024 versions of the Speedmaster Chronoscope.
