The case has a 29 mm diameter made for women. It has Arabic numerals for hours and blue sword-shaped hands. Young Talent Antonin Falk Shows Us His Montre decole, With A Very Special Bumper Automatic Mechanism - Monochrome Watches
Here, at MONOCHROME, we are always pleased to present young watchmakers and their work, not only because they do represent the future of the independent watchmaking scene, but also because what these young talents can achieve is often highly surprising. Today we are taking a look at the Montre d'ecole of Antonin Falk. If you are a regular reader of our magazine, you might remember his jumping hour & retrograde minute watch. Now in his early twenties, Falk just completed a montre d'ecole, a watch he crafted to graduate from his watchmaking school, the Lycee Edgar Faure in Morteau, France. And this watch, in addition to featuring a tourbillon, comes equipped with a very special self-winding mechanism. The briefing for the watch Antonin Falk and his fellow students had to create and craft for their graduation work this year was pretty simple and straightforward. They had to develop and craft, entirely by themselves, an automatic watch using as a base a hand-wound movement, in this inst
Recap: The Best Dress Watches of 2023
As the end of the year draws nearer every day now, we’re in the midst of the festive season. Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve celebrations and whatnot dominate our agendas. The perfect time really, to whip out a high-class dress watch and pair it with your cocktail dress or smoking, or with a onesie and cosy slippers if that’s more your thing. Regardless of how you will ‘suit up’ we have gone through all the dress watches released this year and have voted on five which we think are the Best Dress Watches of 2023.Even though chronographs and divers are amongst the most popular categories in watchmaking, the ‘less is more’ dress watch is still a staple of the community. A watch as simple as it can get, with just two or three hands to tell time, can still have a big impact. From well over 100 new watches we covered that fit the term ‘dress watch’ (and yes, to us that can include a seconds indication) we’ve narrowed it down to ju
Hands-On: The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Dark Grey GMT
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M dive watch collection, introduced nearly two decades ago, has established itself as a symbol of robust case construction, impeccable water resistance, and high-performance movements. Seamlessly marrying the functionality of a tool watch with the style of a luxury timepiece, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M series has become a standout in the realm of modern dive watches. In 2015, Omega expanded this collection by introducing the Planet Ocean 600M Deep Black GMT, featuring a black ceramic case and a traveller's complication. Now, pushing it further, the new Dark Grey GMT version elevates the experience with monochromatic elegance, a novel case material, and titanium-crafted movement components. Our hands-on time with this beauty of the beast provides some insights, and here’s our report.A Lightweight CaseThe Dark Grey iteration maintains the distinctive design of the Planet Ocean GMT, echoing the dimensions of the black ceramic version at a sub
REVIEW: Oris Artelier Calibre 112 - Monochrome Watches
Although it was launched at Baselworld 2016, we took some time to finally get hands on with the Oris Artelier Calibre 112. One of the reasons was that we had to reflect on the watch, its mechanics and how to position it. Its rather clean, classic, certainly not too small and manly design, is something it shares with a well-known Swiss brand that used to pride itself on these characteristics. Add to that the?10-day power reserve of the Oris and the resemblance only becomes more obvious. One way or another, Oris is delivering a magnificent package for the price, and should certainly be considered if you’re looking for a nice, fly-under-the-radar, powerful watch.?So, without any further delay, please enjoy our review of the Oris Artelier Calibre 112.?Some brief historyIn 2014, entry-level watch brand, Oris, did something completely unexpected. To celebrate the brand's 110th anniversary, the company launched its very own, in-house developed movement: Calibre 110. This was a momentous
Clerc Hydroscaph GMT Power Reserve Chronometer, the heavy diver - Monochrome Watches
The choice for dive watches is quite literally endless. There are thousands of good, very good, or extremely good dive watches out there. There are also plenty of so-so dive watches, so it is very possible to lose track of what's what in this popular category. Thus, we feel it is our duty to share some options outside the beaten path of Submariners, Seamasters or Panerais. One of these options is Clerc, a brand dedicated to dive watches with a bold design. Today, we bring you the Clerc Hydroscaph GMT Power Reserve Chronometer, first introduced last year, in one of our extensive reviews, including specs, lots of pictures and of course, our personal thoughts!A dive watch is not only popular amongst actual divers. Most are very rugged, usable tool-watches but a lot of them never go near their depth ratings. Nevertheless, most of them see water in one way or another (shower, swimming pool, heavy rain) so it is a comforting thought that your precious watch is able to take a bit of a beating
