First Look: The new Sand Gold AP Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon 38mm
Marking a first for the recently introduced 38mm iteration of Code 11.59, Audemars Piguet equips its most compact reference with an automatic flying tourbillon. Not just any tourbillon, mind you, but AP's ultra-thin calibre 2968, aka RD#3. Representing the best of both worlds, the new Code 11.59 Tourbillon fuses a state-of-the-art movement with a graceful sand gold case sparkling with diamonds.Tourbillon complications were relatively rare in Audemars Piguet's historical repertoire until 1986 when it launched the calibre 2870, the world's first automatic serially produced tourbillon. One of the lightest of its kind thanks to its titanium cage, calibre 2870 weighed just 0.123g and was also one of the thinnest (4.8mm) until it was surpassed by Bulgari's Octo Finissimo in 2018.The 2023 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3, fitted with the calibre 2968Celebrating the Royal Oak's 50th anniversary in 2022, AP produced an automatic flying tourbillon to fit in
The Collector's Series: Koen's IWC Vintage Ingenieur - Monochrome-Watches
It is with great pleasure we welcome Koen?as a contributor?to the Monochrome-Watches team he is extremely active on the IWC forum and a truly passionate watch geek. When we first sat down on the Collector Series with Koen,?we discussed his stunning Vintage IWC Portofino. On this occasion, in a rather overcast London (no surprise there), his second instalment of the series, we discussed how his passion for IWC lead him to the glorious IWC Vintage Ingenieur.First off let’s take a look back. The first IWC Ingenieur was unveiled in 1955. It was equipped with the first bidirectional automatic movement and developed by the then Technical Director, Albert Pellaton. It wasn’t famous until the early 1970s, when a diver's helmet inspired freelance watch designer Gerald Genta (yes, that’s the same gentleman who designed the AP Royal Oak and Patek’s Nautilus.) His mission was to redesign the Ingenieur. Genta designed the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, which was launched in 1

Hands-On: The Accessible and Original Lorca Model No.1 GMT
Lorca is a new microbrand with an inaugural piece offering GMT functionality, which is always nice to welcome to the market. Its Canadian founder (with both Swiss and Canadian roots) now resides in New York, but the watch has a positively European style and Swiss-made designation. The movement is also a step above your typical Sellita offering. There's a retro vibe with two dial colours available and casual onlookers might think the Model No. 1 GMT is a vintage 1960s piece. In fact, its compact dimensions for a GMT watch are rare today and could be a great match for frequent travellers and jetsetters. ?Founder Jesse Marchant is a recording artist in Brooklyn, New York who simply wanted the perfect GMT watch for tours in Europe and North America. Most contemporary GMT watches are 40mm and above, but Marchant wanted a more sensible diameter from a bygone era. The resulting piece is a blend of many styles with a truly unique personality. Aptly named Model No. 1 GMT, it's an example of wha
First Look: The Tissot PRX Damian Lillard Special Edition
Tissot has just released a new version of its successful sporty-chic watch, the PRX, which?resembles last year’s gold PVD-coated PRX Powermatic 80 with its bold design and colour scheme. However, what sets this edition apart is the intricate details that weave a narrative reflecting Damian Lillard’s journey and character. One of NBA’s most talented players, Lillard was already one of Tissot's ambassadors but now pushes the envelope further by creating his personal watch, mixing sports and music elements, two topics dear to the man. Here's the new Tissot PRX Damian Lillard Special Edition, a bold 40mm PVD gold model with automatic movement. If you’re a fan of basketball or rap music (or both), you’re likely familiar with the name Damian Lillard.
