Interview - Talking To Remi Maillat, The Man Behind Krayon Watches
Independent watchmaker Krayon was created a few years ago by Remi Maillat. Besides his developments behind the scene for other brands, Krayon made a remarkable debut with the mindbogglingly complex Everywhere, the first mechanical watch able to compute the sunrise and sunset times everywhere on the globe. This impressive world-first earned Krayon a well-deserved accolade at the GPHG 2018 with the Innovation Prize. Maillat sits at an interesting intersection at watchmaking. His watches are classic and, at the same time, profoundly modern and innovative. On the occasion of a visit to Krayon's new facilities in Neuchatel, we sat for a talk with the independent watchmaker to better understand his work.Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – How did you become hooked on watchmaking? Hublot Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniversary Collection - Review, Price
In Stephen Hawking's universe, the Big Bang signals the beginning of time; in the watchmaking world, it is a best-selling Hublot watch.?Hublot has always been a brand that likes to make noise, a lot of noise. It is loud, explosive and disruptive; a brand that you either love or hate. Although the Big Bang is very much a 21st-century creation, it owes its character to a watch released in 1980. You could say that Carlo Crocco's Hublot watch jump-started the concept of fusion, an unorthodox but refreshing combination of materials that got the brand noticed. And as this watch turns a respectable age in 2020, the brand releases the new Hublot Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniversary collection.Carlo Crocco's unconventional marriage of materialsItalian entrepreneur Carlo Crocco founded the brand MDM Geneve and, after three years of research, launched the Hublot (French for ‘porthole’) at Baselworld in 1980. An unconventional 37mm yellow gold watch with a black rubber strap, this shock

Like many other members of the Swiss watch industry, Omega is no stranger to the concept of charity watches, which are created to raise awareness and raise funds in order to support a great cause. Since 2011, the Biel-based brand has been supporting international non-profit organisation Orbis, committed to preventing avoidable blindness in the world's poorest regions. This year, Omega presents a new duo of blue-themed watches, which once again wants to make a difference. Meet the new De Ville Tresor watches for Orbis.Orbis International is an international non-profit non-governmental organisation dedicated to saving sight worldwide. Hands-On IWC Pilot Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas IW388108
We’ve talked multiple times about the connections between the world of cars and watches, and this couldn’t truer when it comes to motorsport and, specifically, F1. As we’ve seen here, all teams are partnering with a watch brand for the 2022 season. IWC has long been the partner of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One, having created multiple watches inspired by the world of Formula One, or dedicated to its pilots. This year, there’s a new pilot’s chronograph resulting from this IWC x AMG collaboration, but it’s a bit special, since it’s the first “team watch” that will be worn by?the staff, including designers, aerodynamicists, race engineers, strategists and mechanics. But no worries, as this new IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Edition “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team”?IW388108 is also available for a wider audience.?Up until now, the partnership between IWC and F1 team Mercedes-AMG Petronas has resulted in numerou
Interview - Max Verstappen on F1 and Watches & the new TAG Heuer Verstappen Edition
Following the controversial outcome of the Brazilian Grand Prix, we had the chance to sit down with the hottest ticket on the grid right now as TAG Heuer releases a new watch dedicated to Max Verstappen. Third in line, after the orange and red strap versions from 2016 and 2017, we now get a metal bracelet. It’s still a quartz movement though, as TAG Heuer targets a younger crowd, not necessarily into mechanical watchmaking. The previous models were riddled with details to remind you of the Dutch driver. Of course, the national colour Orange was incorporated and the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Max Verstappen Special Edition 2016 came on an orange rubber strap. The red-white-and-blue of Holland’s flag is also present in all the watches. Besides colour, the number 33 is also referenced in the watches, and the tachymeter scale for the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Max Verstappen Special Edition 2017 was red from zero to thirty-three.Since quartz is not really our thing at
