Longines Avigation BigEye Titanium Blue Dial (Specs & Price)
The?Avigation BigEye is one of those great Heritage Longines watches that pay tribute to the rich aviation past of the brand. Launched in 2017 in steel with a black dial, it was modelled after an elusive 1930s watch with quite a resemblance with some glorious post-WWII pilot’s chronograph too. Also, as indicated by its name, the watch was characterized by its oversized minute counter, a design also known as “Big Eye chronographs.” This year, in addition to the black dial model, Longines adds a new and striking version with a gradient blue dial and even stronger vintage colours. And, most importantly, it now comes in titanium.?BackgroundThe actual vintage Longines BigEye watch from the 1930s that inspired the design of the modern AvigationAs explained in our review of the steel model, the story behind the Avigation BigEye Chronograph is anything but clear. The design is based on a 1930s pilot’s chronograph that a collector presented to the Longines museum, but th
Introducing the Longines Heritage 1973 with Column-Wheel Chronograph Movement - Monochrome Watches
Longines has a long and rich history, from which they can draw inspiration. The result is an ample collection called the Heritage collection, comprising for example the 180 Anniversary Watch (which we reviewed), the Wheems Second-setting Watch, the Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch (both are in our History of the Pilot Watch saga) and the Avigation A-7 Chronograph (see here). And now Longines returns to the seventies with the striking Heritage 1973.The Heritage 1973 is equipped with Longines’ proprietary chronograph movement, caliber L688. A beautiful and reliable movement that employes a column-wheel to operate all chronograph functions. The Heritage 1973 with silver/white dial just came in for an extensive review – which will follow soon – so we can already show you some photos we took this morning. Hands-On - Cuervo y Sobrinos Buceador Caribe Collection (Specs & Price)
Mixing its Cuban roots, which are very much reflected in the design of the watches, with traditional Swiss manufacturing, Cuervo y Sobrinos is a brand like no other. Warm, original, slightly flamboyant with a typical Latino vibe, the brand can’t be blamed for not being consensual. There is a true personality to these watches, and the brand’s latest models are not here to change that. Indeed, right in time for summer, Cuervo y Sobrinos has recently presented a new collection of aquatic models with a generous splash of colour and a design that is nothing like your usual Submariner-wannabe. Today, we’ll take a closer look at this new Buceador Caribe Collection.?Cuervo Y SobrinosCyS is unique in many ways, starting with its origins. Indeed, it is the only Swiss brand with Cuban roots. Louis Erard Excellence Regulator Gradient Dials // Hands-On, Price
Louis Erard's Excellence collection is populated with regulators, a historic display that had fallen into disuse but that is becoming more and more prevalent in watchmaking today. Usually reinterpreted in classic design codes, Louis Erard is determined to show the regulator in a new light and has invited external designers to jazz things up. We've already seen Alain Silberstein's zany colourful Bauhaus take on the regulator and Eric Giroud's sleek minimalist contribution. Now it's time for the more classic Excellence Regulator model to get a makeover with the incorporation of gradient dials in three on-trend colours: green, blue and grey.Regulator clocksAlthough regulator clocks gradually faded into disuse, they were originally developed in the mid-18th century as master clocks to offer the most accurate time readings available. The distinctive feature of regulators was the separation of minutes, hours and seconds. The minutes became the true protagonists of the dial read with a large
New Colours For The Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date
A far cry from the gravitas of the more classical Pano and Senator models, the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date is one of the most original and refreshing models from Glashutte Original. Launched in 2014, the Seventies Panorama Date captures the zeitgeist of that groovy decade with its square TV-shaped case and adoption of vibrant, funky dial colours. Two new limited-edition models with “Golden Bay and “Ocean Breeze” matte dial colours enhance this luxury sports watch collection with a sophisticated integrated flyback chronograph and the brand’s hallmark Panorama Date window. The more demure traditional colours of the first Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date Models eventually gave way to colours more in sync with the collection’s name and spirit. Donning bold, eye-popping colours, the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date took its first colour dip with gradient dials inspired by the nearby Elbe Sandstone Mountains before moving on to more psychedelic colo
