Of course, you can easily go for a used Omega, a simple TAG Heuer or a vintage Breitling. You can even find some second-hand es. Ho
Why I Don't Understand The Hate For The AP Code 11.59 Anymore
What do you do when you want to launch a new collection alongside a truly legendary range that once redefined what luxury watchmaking was? Do you tweak a design and pray it doesn’t get any banter because it looks too much like your precious icon? Or take off in a completely different direction altogether, to find new inspiration and break new grounds in terms of design? Either way, it’s a tough thing to do for sure, but Audemars Piguet took the gamble in 2019 when they introduced the Code 11.59 collection. Hugely different from the famous Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore, but somehow it didn’t capture the heart of collectors and enthusiasts. Was it really that bad? And is it still to this day, that bad? No, it wasn’t back then, and even less these days, which watches like the Code 11.59 Universelle have clearly proven. Through clever use of design, materials, colours and by now extremely complicated movements, the Code 11.59 has seriously matured. But somehow, i
Introducing 3 New Models of Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar
If the Speedmaster and the Seamaster are, without a doubt, the most recognizable watches produced by Omega, the Biel-based brand has far more models to offer. Besides its wide and attractive collection of sports watches, Omega indeed also has more refined, more complex and more luxurious timepieces on offer, whether in the De Ville or the Globemaster collection – the latter being a tribute to the past of the brand and its chronometers. Joining the collection today are three new Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar, available in luxurious metals and in bold colours. The Constellation is one of the most enduring collections of Omega. It even came to life before the legendary Speedmaster. Born in the late 1940s, the Constellation (the family comprising the Globemaster) had always been focused on precision and mechanical refinement, as attested by the presence on the casebacks of a medallion featuring the Observatory of Geneva crowned by a constellation of eight stars. After some discree
Hands-on - Spending time with the anOrdain Model 2 MKII
The small Scottish brand known as anOrdain has made quite a name for itself over the past five years, mainly through its traditionally crafted vitreous enamel dials. Usually reserved for watches at a much higher price point, anOrdain has found a way to make them in-house, at a competitive level. After our recent trip to Glasgow, visiting anOrdain’s atelier in an old carpet factory, we learned how these unique dials are made by hand. The first watch to come out of this atelier was the Model 1, a refined, elegant dress watch. A couple of years later, the Model 2 was introduced, which took the art of enamel dials in a different direction and presented it as a field watch. Just before the summer, we learned that the Model 2 was updated into the Model 2 MKII, which also launched a new size alongside the inaugural 36mm. And during my time in Glasgow and a couple of weeks after, I got to spend plenty of time with it!A Field Watch of a different kindThe Model 2 has always been the more r
Abercrombie & Fitch 1950s Tri-Compax Chronograph / The Vintage Corner
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. was not originally the urban teen clothing brand we know today Named after its founder David T Abercrombie, it was bought and incorporated in 1904 to become Abercrombie & Fitch. It was essentially an early luxury brand focusing on outdoorsy types, offering very high-quality items, shotguns, fishing rods, canoes, camping equipment, objects made for the well-heeled' traveller. Famous names like Hemingway, Gable, Porter, Hepburn and Roosevelt – who was a big fan of the outdoors and a conservationist himself – patronized the store and brand. And in addition to that, it had some watches bearing its name. Quite cool ones to be honest.Ava Gardner, Clark Gable and Grace Kelly in “Mogambo”, by John Ford, 1953The store offered a mail order service and I have a 1950's Christmas Catalogue here that displays such useful items as the Swiss Military Knife, Ray-Ban Glasses and in this particular offering, a range of Gallet watches.
