Frank Geelens Top 10 of the SIHH 2017
The SIHH 2017 ended?already a few weeks ago, and our own Xavier an Brice already shared their favorites of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. In the mean time I’ve been busy, among others with a trip to the far north of Finland with Porsche and Porsche Design. While drifting on ice with a host?of 911’s, I got?to experience how perfectly both brands match, and I got?a lot of hands-on time with the 1919 Chronograph that Porsche Design introduced at Baselworld last year. Later more about that, but now it’s time to list my top 10 watches from the SIHH.It was a rather interesting year with many new models being offered at more competitive pricing; the financial crisis, new anti-corruption?laws?in China and the Swiss Franc and Euro exchange rate being disconnected, certainly inspired brands to act on pricing. Another interesting topic, is that the sports watch segment just became more interesting with a lot of new models from Montblanc, Girard-Per

Recap - The Best Watches Introduced by LONGINES in 2021
2021 was yet another complicated year for watchmaking, and not all brands were as active or creative as they might have hoped. Many of the established watchmakers have been playing it safe, adopting conservative policies or simply postponing major launches for better days. Yet others have shown impressive reactivity and presented solid collections in 2021, and Longines certainly is one of them. Today, in a recap article, we’ll take a closer look at the most attractive watches that have been launched by the winged hourglass (a.k.a Longines) in 2021. And yes, we have a soft spot for its heritage collection. Guilty as charged! The Longines Avigation BigEye TitaniumThis model isn’t per se a new watch, but more a new version of an existing model launched about four years ago. First presented in stainless steel with a classic black dial mimicking an elusive historic model, the Avigation BigEye returned this year in a new version with new materials and colours. And while it may sou
Longines Timepieces in Bathyscaphe Trieste And On The Wrist of Piccard
We, human beings, have a fascination for exploration. We are pioneers, adventurers and mostly, we’re curious to know everything about our planet and what’s around it. Man has travelled through space, has been on the Moon, flew in ultra-fast planes, and also explored the deepest point on planet Earth, Challenger Deep near the?Mariana Trench. On 23 January 1960, swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard and US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh were the first crew to reach the bottom of the Challenger Deep, a story well known by watch enthusiasts, thanks to the involvement of in the project. But what is far less known is the presence of Longines timepieces, both onboard the Trieste, and on the wrist of Piccard himself (at least in the first record dive of 1953). And today, with a bit of help from the Longines Museum, we give you more details about this Longines x Piccard connection.?Piccard, father and sonBehind the story of the Trieste and all the subsequent record dives to finally reach
First Look: The New TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport Collection
This year, TAG Heuer is expanding its lineup by introducing a new collection, the Carrera Extreme Sport series with 6 different models, blending the brand’s legendary racing heritage with advanced materials and innovative design. Earlier this year, the brand unveiled the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 in time for the 24h of Le Mans, paying tribute to the car competing in this iconic endurance race. This watch, a bold and modern interpretation of the racing chronograph, hinted at what would come. The new Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport collection builds on the openworked dial design, reminiscent of the ideas also seen in the Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 from 2015 and is a development of this bold, modular collection. Here's our early hands-on with these new watches, which are presented in various colours and made with high-end materials. The Carrera Chronograph Extreme SportThe TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport is housed in a robust 44mm case, 15.1mm thick, with a water-
