Introducing: The new Green Credor Locomotive GCCR997 Joins the Permanent Collection
Last year, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Credor – the high-end, most classical brand owned by the Seiko Corporation – unveiled a very special watch based on the Locomotive concept and being a faithful recreation of Gerald Genta‘s original 1978 sketch. While Genta is best known for designing the iconic Royal Oak, Nautilus, and Ingenieur, his creative vision extended far beyond Europe. Frequent visits to Japan led to a friendship with Seiko’s Reijiro Hattori, who invited him to design a distinctive timepiece for Credor, part of Seiko’s portfolio. The result was the Locomotive, first introduced to the public in 1979.The 2024 Credor Locomotive limited-edition reissue got plenty of attention upon its release, though much of the discussion centred on its aesthetics rather than the exceptional detailing and finishing it offers. While we have yet to experience the new Credor Locomotive GCCR997 in person, everything we know suggests it is an impeccably crafted
IWC Portugieser Green Dial IW358310 & IW344207 (Specs, Price)
There’s no avoiding green. While silver/white and black used to be the norm, later followed by an array of blue watches in the 2010s, green seems to be THE colour of the 2020s. It’s not a trend anymore; it’s becoming a necessity for brands to have a green edition of classic models. And we can’t blame them, because when it’s done right, a green-coloured watch can be pretty cool. IWC is no stranger to the colour green, pushing the concept as far as possible with a full-green watch, case and strap included. Following yesterday’s launch of the Racing Green Big Pilot 43, it’s now time for the Portugieser to get the same treatment with new green editions of the Portugieser Automatic 40 and Perpetual Calendar 42.?You simply can’t do without it anymore. Green is all over the place, with dozens of watches recently launched with green dials, in all segments of the industry, in all styles and categories, and in all price ranges. IWC has been pretty
Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 Blue Dial (Specs & Price)
We often hear that blue is the new black… In recent years, we have seen dozens of watches evolving with the addition of blue dials, yet in sports watches, black is still pretty much the norm. Not for Oris! Just like they did recently with the Artelier Calibre 111, the brand introduces a blue version of its in-house version of the?Big Crown ProPilot, a powerful (to say the least) aviation-inspired watch – which also happens to be one of the brand’s bestsellers in Switzerland (we knew they had some good tastes). On then to the overview! The?Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 was introduced one year after a major step for the brand; the introduction of their first in-house movement in decades (35 years to be precise), the Calibre 110. This number was a reference to various elements of the movement. First, it celebrated the 110th anniversary of the name Oris. A reference to the number “10” was also implied by the length of the power reserve: 10 days. All of th
Rado Captain Cook Bronze Burgundy (Hands-on, Price)
Since 2017, Rado has found a spot in the market for cool, vintage-oriented dive watches with its successful Captain Cook model. Largely associated with the use of high-tech ceramics, Rado also benefits from a rich history, and several emblematic watches from the past have been reintroduced. Inspired by a 1962 piece with a distinctive case/bezel design, the Captain Cook has been released in multiple iterations, such as compact 37mm limited editions and, more recently, some enlarged yet very appealing bronze versions. In addition to the green, grey/brown and blue models, today Rado launches a new and striking version: the Captain Cook Bronze Burgundy.A vintage example of the Rado Captain Cook – photo: Michael Stockton, Fratello WatchesAs explained in this article on the previous Captain Cook Bronze watches, this watch is inspired by a glorious and quite conspicuous watch produced by the brand during the golden age of the dive watch. This watch was released in 1962 with a 37mm case
Video Review: The TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Chronograph 39mm Black Dial
This year, TAG Heuer celebrates the 60th anniversary of its most emblematic watch, a racing chronograph known as the Carrera, and as expected, we’ve seen already special editions or commemorative models. But that’s not all the brand had to offer. What’s probably the most important launch in recent years for this icon of motorsport is the watch we’re about to review, a new automatic chronograph with a compact 39mm case and a design so original that it gave its name to the watch:?Glassbox. And while the recently-launched Carrera Skipper might feel even cooler, we believe that this classic reversed panda edition of the TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox is the one to get, as we’ll see in our video review.BackgroundThe Carrera Chronograph was first introduced in 1963, although its roots go back even further than that. A decade earlier, Heuer introduced the 404 series, a chronograph that already showed the telltale signs of what would become the Carrera. With this watc
