The SIHH to welcome 9 creative & Independent Manufactures - Monochrome-Watches
Until now, the SIHH, the watch fair held in January, was known to be a very luxurious exhibition that almost exclusively focuses on the Richemont Group brands. The FHH (Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie), host of the SIHH, just decided to change the format, first by bringing a new architectural concept, but mainly by adding to the list of the exhibiting maisons 9 independent watchmakers – and not the worst ones to be honest.Until now, the SIHH or Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, was hosted the Geneva-based watch fair for 16 brands. 12 of them are owned by the Richemont Group – A. Lange & Sohne, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Van Cleef & Arpels and Vacheron Constantin (plus Ralph Lauren watches that is operated by Richemont). In addition to?them, 4 other very high-end manufactures were present: Audemars Piguet, Greubel Forsey?(Richemont owns shares),?Parmigiani Fleurier, and Richard Mille.
Hands-On Gerald Genta Arena Mickey Mouse Playing Football
Swiss watch designer Gerald Genta was ahead of his time. The man who designed the Royal Oak and the Nautilus, singlehandedly kickstarting the extraordinarily coveted luxury sports watch genre, also anticipated another niche for watches inspired by characters borrowed from pop culture. When Genta decided to produce watches under his own name, he unleashed his more playful side and produced a series of ‘serious’ mechanical watches with Disney characters on the dial, including Mickey Mouse. Following the sold-out performance of the Gerald Genta Arena Retrograde Smiling Mickey released by Bulgari in 2021, Mickey Mouse is back for round two, this time kicking a football. A rare triple complication model with retrograde minutes, retrograde date and jumping hours, the Arena Bi-Retrograde Mickey Mouse is a treat reserved for just 200 fans of Genta, Mickey Mouse and football! When Gerald Met MickeyGerald Genta might not have been the first watchmaker to feature a Disney character, bu
Introducing the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 - A new Challenger in the Sky (Price and Specs) - Monochrome Watches
Last year Oris surprised everyone with the launch of their first in-house movement (we reviewed it for you here), which was introduced for the celebration of their 110th anniversary. The caliber’s name on the other hand was anything but a surprise, as they dubbed it calibre 110.?Now Oris has created a new timepiece in the ProPilot collection – yes, that’s the collection with the marvelous ProPilot Altimeter that we tested in its ‘natural environment’ – and they have equipped it?with a new & improved version of the calibre 110 that features a date function. Let’s have a closer look at the new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111.?The new Oris Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 111 is actually the very first Oris that comes with the new calibre 111. Of course that makes this an important watch for the brand, and we think that this watch will be off?great interest to collectors as well. However before I go all technical on you, let’s have a quick
(TAG) Heuer Monaco - plexi is sexy - Monochrome Watches
The newest TAG Heuer Monaco Classic Chronograph is the first Monaco, since March of 1969 when the first Monaco was released, to have a sapphire crystal. Why… have they forgotten that PLEXI IS SEXY….?Since the first Heuer Monaco was released in March of 1969, all of them had a plexi crystal. The Heuer Monaco reference 1133 was the first automatic chronograph to be released and it was the first chronograph ever to appear in a square case. So you can easily say it’s quite a remarkable watch. Ad - Scroll to continue with article The Heuer Monaco reference 1133 is the original Monaco, designed by Jack Heuer. It had the word ‘Chronomatic’ at the top of the dial and ‘Monaco’ at the bottom. Later models didn’t have the ‘Chronomatic’ on the dial anymore. The watch was named in honor of the Formula One race and n
Ulysse Nardin FreakLab, the modern version of the mother of concept watches and silicon - Monochrome Watches
In the small but fascinating world of watchmaking, some timepieces?deeply influenced the whole industry. The Submariner almost defined what a dive watch should be. The story behind the Speedmaster is still an immense source of fascination. The Royal Oak created his own and so-respected category, the luxury sports watch. In a much more discreet way, Ulysse Nardin, in 2001, introduced a watch that deeply changed the face of modern watchmaking: the Freak, a watch that can be considered as the mother of concept watches and of silicon. Its time for us to review its successor, the?Ulysse Nardin FreakLab.The Ulysse Nardin Freak, a 15 years historyIn a time not that far away, watches were made with metals, entirely with metals. Their escapements and balance springs where made in the most advanced alloys possible, but still, this was metal. Then, before the madness of the 2000s came, watches were small, round, classical – even sports watches were in fact quite understated. Well, in 2001,
