First Look: The New, Customizable Ferdinand Berthoud FB RES
In 2015, Ferdinand Berthoud, a brand with a historical name resurrected by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard’s co-president, unveiled the Chronometre Ferdinand Berthoud FB1. Since then, we’ve witnessed the successful launch of numerous references in the FB1, FB2, and FB3 collections. These releases have showcased groundbreaking engineering innovations and distinguished themselves with their exceptional design, setting them apart from today’s other ultra-complicated masterpieces. The Chronometre FB RES marks a significant evolution from its predecessor, the Chronometre FB 2RE. Unveiled in 2020, the FB 2RE broke ground as the brand’s first round-cased, non-tourbillon-regulated watch, with all three hands in the centre. It featured an FB movement equipped with the fusee-and-chain transmission and a remontoire. Now, the Chronometre FB RES (Remontoir d'egalite Squelette) takes this innovation further, offering an insight into its inner workings with customizable finis
News: IWC Ceralume, The First Fully Luminous Ceramic Watch
The use of luminescent materials on watches is far from new… Soon after the discovery of radium and its properties (and dangers…) by Marie and Pierre Curie in 1898, watch dials – markers, numerals and hands – have been coated with radium and then different substances (tritium, Super-LumiNova) to produce light in the dark. Fully luminous watch dials are a far more recent trend, and fully luminous watch cases are still a rarity that we only covered twice in this magazine – with Bell & Ross and Tockr. IWC, which has already shown its appeal for lume, now unveils Ceralume, a proprietary luminous ceramic technology and the first fully luminous ceramic watch… But don’t get crazy too soon, it is still a concept and isn’t commercialized. While the idea of a fully luminous watch case isn’t new, the difference with IWC is that the brand’s engineering division XPL has developed an unprecedented luminous ceramic compound – Bell &
Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Collection 2018 (Specs & Price)
When Jerome Lambert took over Montblanc, the idea was simple: offer a lot of product for less money. This didn’t mean that all the watches had to be affordable, but rather that watches – including ones with solid horological credentials – were lower priced than expected. This gave birth to a Sub-10k Perpetual Calendar, the?4810 ExoTourbillon Slim or a Sub-7k annual calendar. Following the same idea, Montblanc introduces three new watches in the?Heritage Chronometrie collection, still complex but with new, contemporary design codes. All three watches – the?Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Perpetual Calendar Sapphire, the?Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Exo Tourbillon Slim Openworked and the?Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Exo Tourbillon Slim – share the same concept: a new, refined and slim 40mm case,?redesigned dials with contemporary aesthetics and a new colour scheme as well as openworked movements with graphic, 3-dimensional?construction and sapphire crys
The 2022 Tudor Ranger 39mm 79950 In-House (Specs-Price)
While most of us might know Tudor (at least its modern side) for the countless editions of the Black Bay, the brand has far more to offer… And that, for its historical or modern collections. If you recall, in 2014 Tudor paid tribute to its involvement into exploration, by bringing back an important model, the Ranger. A robust, no-nonsense instrument made for adventure, it came back modernized with an oversized case but the same overall spirit. The Tudor Ranger has since been discontinued, but today it’s back with multiple evolutions, making it a far stronger offering. 39mm in size, equipped with a chronometer movement and some tricks under its sleeve, here’s the new 2022 Tudor Ranger 79950.?Tudor, Exploration and the BNGE is known by many for its connection with exploration, as of the 1930s, including testing watches on Himalayan expeditions. The peak of this story occurred with Sir Edmund Hillary and expedition partner Tenzing Norgay, when they summit Mount Everest
