Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 41mm 15500 Silver Dial (Price)
The watch that launched the luxury sports watch category and kept Audemars Piguet afloat through thick and thin since 1972 was fittingly named after a 1916 Royal Navy battleship, the HMS Royal Oak. Without delving into its genesis and well-documented history, suffice it to say that the Audemars Piguet’s flagship Royal Oak has been interpreted in countless guises over the years. The Ref. 15500, a 41mm model of the RO with an upgraded in-house movement was introduced in 2019 and designed to replace the former Ref. 15400 that had been around since 2012. Offered with blue, grey and black dials, the latest iteration of Ref. 15000 now comes with a classic silver-toned dial. Combined with the steel case, the silver dial contributes to its solid monochrome look. The blue dial version of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 41mm 15500ST, introduced in 2019 – also with black and dark grey dials. Background Ref. 15500STLargely eclipsed by the launch of AP's polarising CODE 11.59 co
The Two-Wheeled Madness Of Thornton Hundred Motorcycles
For the majority of the time we have been running the Petrolhead Corner, we have been predominantly focussing on four-wheeled fun. That changed a while back when our contributor Erik, a knowledgeable and experienced rider, and I, a novice rider who bought his first bike less than a year ago, started to write about motorcycles every now and then. Similar to what often goes down when sourcing inspiration for car stories for our weekly column, I have stumbled upon multiple very cool things to share, including today’s topic; the bespoke madness of Thornton Hundred Motorcycles. Enjoy!Thornton HundredThe company Thornton Hundred Motorcycles was founded by Jody Millhouse and is based in Castlethorpe, Milton Keynes, in the United Kingdom, close to the Silverstone race track and the Formula 1 teams of Red Bull Racing and Mercedes-AMG. Jody was just 20 years old when he started with Thornton Hundred, a name that refers to the village where he lived and grew up (Thornton) and to the 100mph
First Look: The New TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph
The anticipation soared when TAG Heuer unveiled a one-of-a-kind Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch in 2023, sparking hopes for its integration into the permanent collection. While the brand had previously dabbled in split-seconds or rattrapante chronographs during the 1960s, primarily as stopwatches for sporting events, it wasn’t until quartz technology that this functionality found its way into wristwatches. Despite this legacy, the mechanical split-seconds chronograph eluded TAG Heuer’s repertoire until last year. With the introduction of the new calibre TH81-00, TAG Heuer has finally re-entered the realm of rattrapante, marking a significant milestone. For its debut, the new TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph arrives in two versions, each distinguished by racing red or classic Monaco-blue accents and echoing the avant-garde design ethos of the Only Watch edition. Encased within a black DLC-coated titanium 41mm square-shaped, 15.2 mm thick case, which
