Opinion: Why i Think The Zeitwinkel 273 Sapphir Fume Is The Brand's Finest
The independent watchmaking scene is quite widespread, yet there are several key players who always seem to be in everyone’s spotlight and others who are not. One of the brands that, to me at least, operates a bit under the radar is Zeitwinkel. I’ve always had a soft spot for the brand’s contemporary designs paired with German Silver movement construction. One model in particular has stood out to me ever since it was introduced; the Zeitwinkel 273¡ã Sapphir Fume. Now, it’s not often I come across this watch, so when I recently had a long and engaging chat with co-founder Albert Edelmann and spotted him wearing that very watch, I hatched a cunning plan. As you can see, that watch is now temporarily in my possession (hence the worn state), and I will explain why I think this is the best watch coming out of Zeitwinkel’s atelier.Although Zeitwinkel admittedly is quite a niche brand, it has been around since 2006. Founded by a group of passionate watch enthusias
The Maison Alcee Percee, A Fantastic Built-it-Yourself Mechanical Table Clock
In today’s day and age, it’s easy to forget that the wrist-worn timekeeping devices we love so much come from a long history of clockmaking. After all, clockmaking precedes watchmaking by several centuries, as the first mechanical clocks date back to the 13th century. But even before that, people were fascinated by the passing of time and tried making sense of it through sundials, water clocks and hourglasses. With the rise of wristwatches in the early 1900s, and especially after the invention of quartz and digital clocks and watches, the need for traditional mechanical clocks slowly started to dwindle, to a point where it’s often overlooked nowadays. Nevertheless, there’s a surprising number of very beautiful and highly interesting mechanical clocks still to be found for those who know where to look. One such offering comes from Maison Alcee, a young independent clockmaking start-up from France. And best of all, you can build the high-end Maison Alcee Percee cl
Introducing The Stunning, Japan-Only Andersen Geneve Jumping Hours Rising Sun Edition
Japan is, without a doubt, a country of watchmaking culture. Not only is it one of the largest producers of watches alongside Switzerland, but it’s also home to many discerning collectors. Without surprise, a close relationship was formed between Andersen Geneve, the brand founded by AHCI member Svend Andersen, and the country of the rising sun. This gave birth, for example, to a 50-piece limited edition Voyage Worldtimer made in 2005 in collaboration with Mr Yoshi Isogai of the celebrated retailer Shellman. This year, Andersen Geneve again creates a 50-piece limited edition designed for its Japanese clientele, a splendid take on one of its signature models, the new Jumping Hours Rising Sun Edition.?Image by @les_artisans_1977While many will be familiar with his countless (and highly desirable) takes on the world time complication, Svend Andersen has masterminded many more watches over his long career. In 1995, Svend Andersen was commissioned to create a watch with jumping hours

Oris & Audi - The Oris Audi Sport III Limited Edition at WEC 6 Hours of Nurburgring - Monochrome Watches
For returning readers it is a known fact most members of team Monochrome are car-guys to some extent. Obviously, both watchmaking and the automotive industry are intertwined extensively, so when Oris gave us the chance to attend the FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Nurburgring race, I jumped on the occasion! 6 hours of the fastest prototypes and road-car-based racers on the planet, blasting around an historical track sounds like a good way to spend a weekend! Oh, and there was a new watch. Quite a cool, special watch, to be handed to the drivers of Audi Sport: the Oris Audi Sport III Limited Edition. Most people might know the brand to be focused on dive watches but that doesn't do them justice, as they are capable of so much more! They have brought us the world's first automatic altimeter for the wrist, or a watch with in-house movement featuring a single barrel storing up to 100 hours of power, neither of these are in the diving collection. And to top that, Oris has had a s
