Value Proposition - The Star Dust and Black Dust From Balticus Watches - Monochrome Watches
A few months ago, we told you about a young brand from Poland called Balticus. At the time, they were raising funds on Indiegogo for two new automatic bronze watches; the Big Wave and the Grey Seal. Today, we're getting hands-on with another two models from this young company, the descriptively named Star Dust and Black Dust. At once familiar and unusual, both models come in at under EUR 600 and offer a lot of bang for the buck, although they may not suit everyone's tastes.Balticus WatchesAdmittedly, when you think of watch brands, Poland is probably not the first country that springs to mind. We should point out here, though, that Balticus is that it is not exactly a brand-new' brand. Although they only ran their first crowd-funding campaign a few months ago, the company has actually been around for almost 3 years and selling their watches in boutiques throughout Polan
Hands-On - Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Opaline Titanium (Price)
Laurent Ferrier is coming up for its tenth anniversary this year and celebrates with the release of this Classic Origin Opaline watch in a 40mm Grade 5 titanium case and the pared-down elegance we have come to associate with Laurent Ferrier. The first time the brand recurs to titanium, this straightforward time-only model with small seconds at 6 o'clock has an elegant dash of sportiness with touches of burgundy and grey on the dial. The son and grandson of watchmakers with a long career at Patek Philippe as creative director, Laurent Ferrier went solo in 2010 setting up shop in Geneva. His first watch, the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral secured the men's watch prize at the GPHG 2010. Its deceptively simple dial with no trace of a tourbillon belied the sophi
Report - Crazy Prices for PF Journe at 2021 Phillips & Only Watch Auction
As you might have seen, this past weekend was important for the watch collecting community. Like every year, the weekend after the GPHG is packed with auctions in Geneva. Christie’s and Phillips (and others) had their auctions, and last Saturday was the Only Watch charity auction; all benefitting from the presence of the most prominent watch collectors. While the auctions showed a strong, but not spectacular, interest in vintage watches from the usual suspects (mainly Patek Phillipe and ), we’ve seen a renewed confirmation of a trend that started a couple of years ago. There’s a fast-growing and strong interest in some independent watchmakers, such as Philippe Dufour, Roger Smith and early watches made by F.P. Journe. And looking at the astonishing results fetched this weekend at Phillips Geneva Watch Auction XIV and Only Watch 2021, this is a trend that can’t be ignored anymore! When he created MONOCHROME more than 15 years ago, our founder Frank, quickly start
