The Return of the Oris Rectangular for the 2021 Collection
Perhaps not the best-known collection at Oris, the Rectangular is back with new proportions, colourful dials and straps. A classic dress watch with smooth Art Deco lines, the latest case size of the Oris Rectangular is designed to appeal to men and women alike. If you go to the Oris website and browse the Rectangular collection, you will see four models pop up, the four new models we are covering in this article. However, if you do a generic search for the Oris Rectangular model, some links will take you back to an older Oris website displaying a host of Rectangular models ranging from date, chronograph, GMT and even women's models. The point being that the Rectangular family is not new, although it is hard to establish the exact year of its debut. Be that as it may, the Rectangular is a stylish dress watch with some of the seriousness of classic rectangular watches (JLC Reverso, Cartier Tank) mitigated by its colourful dials and straps. Introducing: The new Green Credor Locomotive GCCR997 Joins the Permanent Collection
Last year, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Credor – the high-end, most classical brand owned by the Seiko Corporation – unveiled a very special watch based on the Locomotive concept and being a faithful recreation of Gerald Genta‘s original 1978 sketch. While Genta is best known for designing the iconic Royal Oak, Nautilus, and Ingenieur, his creative vision extended far beyond Europe. Frequent visits to Japan led to a friendship with Seiko’s Reijiro Hattori, who invited him to design a distinctive timepiece for Credor, part of Seiko’s portfolio. The result was the Locomotive, first introduced to the public in 1979.The 2024 Credor Locomotive limited-edition reissue got plenty of attention upon its release, though much of the discussion centred on its aesthetics rather than the exceptional detailing and finishing it offers. While we have yet to experience the new Credor Locomotive GCCR997 in person, everything we know suggests it is an impeccably crafted
First Look: The Europe-Only Platinum Tank Louis Cartier Limited Edition
While the name Santos often comes to mind when speaking about Cartier watches, it would be more precise in this instance to talk about the brand’s first wristwatch – and most probably one of the earliest purpose-built wristwatches. In fact, when talking about watches in general, the first (pocket)watches by Cartier appeared as early as 1853, only six years after the creation of the atelier by Louis-Fran?ois Cartier. To celebrate 170 years of watchmaking, today, the brand is releasing an appealing new limited edition based on the hand-wound Tank Louis Cartier LM, exclusive to the European market, combining a platinum case with an Art Deco blue dial.?Despite being named LM or Large Model, what we’re looking at today is a truly modest watch, at least regarding its proportions. Is this a bad thing? Not at all. It’s sometimes rather refreshing to strap such a compact watch on the wrist, specifically when we’re talking about one with the sheer elegance of the Ta
Buying Guide - Best Luxury Watches With Interchangeable Bracelet/Strap
We all know that a watch is probably a man’s most important accessory (along with his wedding ring). It reflects his personality, his way of life, it must comply with the situation and his wardrobe. There are, of course, no rules but you’ll admit that a dive watch won’t be the best option for a night at the opera. The solution to that (non)problem: having a watch for every situation… Or, having a versatile watch that can change personality by just changing its metallic bracelet for an alligator leather strap. Convenient, isn’t it? If that’s something you want to experience, we have found four extremely good watches that are delivered with more than one style of bracelet/strap.Note: this selection is based on the preferences of MONOCHROME’s editors. If you have other models in mind that would fall in this category of watches, feel free to share them with us in the comment box.Cartier Santos Large ModelIn 2018, Cartier revamped one of its most ic
2020 IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph IW3907 (Specs & Price)
A decade after its maiden voyage, the third-generation Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph (Ref. 3907) sails into port. The novelties are a larger case size, the relocation of the date window, some fine-tuning on the dial and a new metal bracelet. Still ticking to the tune of in-house automatic calibre 89361 with a flyback function and a unique chronograph display using one dial to indicate elapsed hours and minutes, the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph comes in three iterations. The sportiest of the Portugieser family, the latest revamp of the Yacht Club has notched up the dress factor of the watch considerably. Just ahead of the official Watches & Wonders digital launch, we were able to spend some time with these three models.Brief History of the Yacht ClubThe Yacht Club, as we know it today, made its debut in 2010. However, there was a 1967 Yacht Club antecedent. This first Yacht Club (Ref. 811) was a three-hand and date model with an extremely robust shock-absorption syste
