Weekly Watch Photo - A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst - Monochrome Watches
Some weeks ago A. Lange & Sohne unveiled what in my eyes is the most beautiful timepiece in the current collection. It’s a special limited edition?of the Zeitwerk ‘Handwerkskunst’.In my opinion?the Lange Zeitwerk, that was released?late 2009,?is one of the most desirable timepieces available on the market today.? This new version with a hand frosted black-rhodium white gold dial, somehow perfected the looks of the Zeitwerk even more. Ad - Scroll to continue with article The white gold dial has been black rhodium finished, something rare as usually rhodium finish is used to make metals (mostly white gold) look more shiny and white. The frosting is also something very rare and can only be found on a hand-full of watches. I know Peter Speake-Marin did several commissioned pieces with a hand-frosted dial, Kari Voutilainen’s Minute Repeate
In-Depth - The Audemars Piguet Calibre 4400, The New In-House, Integrated Chronograph
The launch of the Code 11.59 collection is a crucial moment for Audemars Piguet. There has been no product launch of this magnitude over the past 20 years for the brand. In this respect, the Code collection presentation was the perfect opportunity to introduce a long-anticipated development that was announced a few years ago: the Audemars Piguet Calibre 4400, an in-house, integrated chronograph movement – by no means a small achievement since chronographs are extremely difficult to develop.Long awaited, finally here!Until now, Audemars Piguet has manufactured a few high-end chronographs in-house in the Le Locle APRP manufacture. However, the brand relied mostly on outsourced chronograph movements – either integrated with the Piguet-based?FP1185, or modular with Dubois-Depraz modules on top of the in-house 3120 Calibre. At last, the long-awaited Audemars Piguet in-house, integrated chronograph is now here! Ad - Scroll to continue with article
SIHH 2019 - Bvlgari Gerald Genta 50th Anniversary 103191 Arena Bi-Retro
Gerald Genta needs little introduction to watch aficionados. This legendary watch designer created some of the most striking timepieces in modern history – under his own name or commissioned by famous brands including Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC, Universal Geneve, Cartier and many more During the 1970s, with the Royal Oak (and later with the Nautilus or the Ingenieur) he revolutionized the industry, creating a cult classic and one of the most successful watch categories today, that of the luxury sports watch.Bvlgari acquired the Gerald Genta brand in 2000 together with its sister company Daniel Roth from The Hour Glass. In 2010, the two companies stopped existing as standalone brands. Today, their expertise in the field of complicated watchmaking has been integrated into the Bvlgari movement manufacture in the Vallee de Joux, think for instance about chiming watches. This acquisition was instrumental in laying the foundations for the development of the superb and success
First Look: The New Worlds Thinnest Mechanical Watch, The 1.70mm Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC
The competition for ultra-thin watches is more intense than ever. Watches with a thinness that would have been unimaginable a few years ago have recently been unveiled, with manufacturers squeezing complications into minimal space and tirelessly chasing microns. Bulgari's Octo Finissimo saga has garnered widespread recognition in this realm. The brand’s remarkable series of records included the world's thinnest mechanical watch in 2022, the Octo Finissimo Ultra, at a mere 1.8mm thick. However, Bulgari‘s reign was short-lived, when Richard Mille introduced the RM UP-01 a few months later, with its 1.75mm thickness. But it's time for Bulgari to reclaim its trophy and bragging rights. Meet the world's thinnest mechanical watch with the new 1.70mm Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC.The Octo Finissimo needs little introduction and has become a true icon of horology. It is a statement of style and Italian elegance. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it is also a technical achievement as
NOTSAG Aquaelite Type I, An Accessible Dive Watch For a Good Cause
NOTSAG is a unique brand for many reasons. The name itself is an anagram of Gaston, the founder's oldest son with developmental challenges including mitochondrial disease, severe autism and a GABBR2 mutation. Most readers at MONOCHROME are familiar with Only Watch auction, a charity auction held every two years to support research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. About 50 of the most prestigious watch brands produce one-offs for the auction, which has raised over CHF 70 million since 2005. NOTSAG takes a more personal and direct approach, donating 20% of net profits to mitochondrial disease research. The Type I is an intriguing and well-designed Swiss made diver in its own right but represents much more.BackgroundNOTSAG is a new watch brand in Los Angeles from founder Laurent Chardin Rischmann. The evolution of Gaston's challenges marches on and Laurent felt that 2018 was the right time to establish the brand, honouring his oldest son, born in 2010, by raising money and awareness for h
