Gerald Genta Arena Bi-Retrograde Anthracite
As some of you certainly know, there’s much more to Gerald Genta than his fame as the designer of the Royal Oak. The man also founded his own watch brand, which was acquired by Bvlgari in 2000 and is one of the pillars behind today’s impressive Octo Finissimo collection. Last year, we saw the name “Gerald Genta” printed again on the dial of a 50th-anniversary model. For 2020, Bvlgari continues to revive the name and brings a new, more modern take on the signature double-retrograde display, with the new Gerald Genta Arena Bi-Retrograde Anthracite.Gerald Genta is renowned for his designs, such as the Royal Oak or the Nautilus. But he was also the founder of an eponymous watch brand and produced some of the most striking and boldest haute horlogerie watches of his times – including some grand complication models. Another element that consolidated the fame of his brand was unique displays – the retrograde and bi-retrograde movements. In 1996, Gerald Gent
Baume & Mercier Clifton 8-Day Power Reserve (specs and price) - Monochrome-Watches
Another novelty from Watch &?Wonders 2014. And a pretty interesting one too. To celebrate its 185th anniversary, Baume & Mercier will please the collectors with a refined and elegant watch. You’ll argue that the brand is already used to create such watches. Yes, it is true. But this one plays?into another mechanical level, as it comes with a large, complicated IWC movement. Here is the Baume & Mercier Clifton 8-Day Power Reserve. The Clifton can be seen as the flagship timepiece of the brand. We recently reviewed the Retrograde Date Edition and we’ve been quite impressed by the quality of the package delivered. It is clearly?not a passionate’s or collector’s watch, but it is a solid choice as a refined daily beater. However, into the collection, some of the watches are playing into another category: more refined, more complicated and more collectible. The first example was the?Baume & Mercier Clifton 1830. No more ETA /?Soprod movement and stainle
Introducing the Longines Heritage 1973 with Column-Wheel Chronograph Movement - Monochrome Watches
Longines has a long and rich history, from which they can draw inspiration. The result is an ample collection called the Heritage collection, comprising for example the 180 Anniversary Watch (which we reviewed), the Wheems Second-setting Watch, the Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch (both are in our History of the Pilot Watch saga) and the Avigation A-7 Chronograph (see here). And now Longines returns to the seventies with the striking Heritage 1973.The Heritage 1973 is equipped with Longines’ proprietary chronograph movement, caliber L688. A beautiful and reliable movement that employes a column-wheel to operate all chronograph functions. The Heritage 1973 with silver/white dial just came in for an extensive review – which will follow soon – so we can already show you some photos we took this morning. An in-depth analysis of the Ulysse Nardin Anchor Tourbillon - Live photos, specs & price - Monochrome-Watches
Here is something you might not know: Ulysse Nardin is one of the major innovators of the market. You’d probably think the manufacture does great marine chronometers or funny erotic watches. However, there is much more to see in the R&D office of Ulysse Nardin: the use of silicon for an escapement wheel for the very first time,?the first test of a diamond balance spring or?the first manufacture to fit a watch with a diamond escapement. This research team is, for sure, productive – and they did again last year while showing us the first prototype of a brand new constant escapement, the?Ulysse Anchor Escapement. As promised, here is the first?commercialized watch to feature this innovation. Say hello to the?Ulysse Nardin Anchor Tourbillon.BackgroundIf you step back and look at the past 15 years, you’ll see that one of the most innovative manufactures had undoubtedly been Ulysse Nardin. Why? First and certainly main of the innovations credited to UN: the use for the
Glashutte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer Blue Editions (Specs & Price)
Following up with its exclusive collection of blue-coloured watches, the Bucherer “Blue Editions”, which include some pretty cool watches such as this Oris Chronograph or this Breguet Marine, major Swiss watch retailer Bucherer continues to expand its line-up with a high-end piece, this time in a limited edition, with various evolutions compared to the standard model. Say hello to the Glashutte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Bucherer “Blue Editions”.Apart from introducing some changes to the dials or the straps, the common denominator of (almost) all the Bucherer “Blue Editions” is the use of specific blue dials – or blue details, such as the movement side of this Moser. This was the case when this whole concept began, however, as interest grows, the Swiss retailer has started to make some more dramatic changes on these watches – see the dial of this Breguet for instance, more than just a colour change.
