Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral - Reviewing an Understated Masterpiece (Photos, Specs and Price) - Monochrome-Watches
We’ve been reviewing what is arguably the most understated wrist watch. We’re used to explaining high prices to people when they spot something extravagant on our wrist. In this case it was more difficult to explain, until the watch was?turned over to?show?that stunning?movement, featuring a tourbillon with double spiral. While the average watch-person (is that a word?) hardly understands what a tourbillon is, or does, try explaining a tourbillon with two spirals, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. However the Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral holds so much more to?justifiy its price. Ultimate refinement, the epitome of a dress watch, and understated to the max.?My wrist has had the pleasure of wearing… err… testing the most phenomenal timepieces of modern times. Whether it be the outgoing Roger Dubuis Pulsion Skeleton Flying Tourbillon, the quirky Hautlence HL Ti, or the mighty Lange & Sohne Double Split, the classy
Introducing DWISS M3W Wandering Hour 10th Anniversary Limited Edition
Wandering hours are gaining traction in the affordable (midrange) segment with brands like Gorilla and Xeric launching intriguing models. The unusual complication has most often been reserved for luxury pieces like the Urwerk UR-100V T-Rex and Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Capitole, but attainable modules have levelled the playing field a bit. DWISS entered the game last year with the RW1 and its two-disc wandering hours display. The new DWISS M3W Wandering Hour is an evolution of their M3 Watch (which had an unusual displaced time dial) and features a three-disc wandering hours setup.?Like the tourbillon, wandering hours is an old concept, developed in the 1600s for clocks (initially for the Pope as the rumour goes). However, it wasn't adapted for a wristwatch until 1991 with the Star Wheel by Audemars Piguet. So, from a modern perspective, it's only 30 years old. DWISS is a Swiss brand that focuses on unusual time displays, so wandering hours is a perfect fit. The watchmaker is celebrati
The history of the Seiko Tuna, the Deep Sea Fish - Monochrome-Watches
Few watches possess the aura and the character of the Seiko Tuna. Introduced in 1975 in a ?mechanical form, it was upgraded in 1978 with a quartz movement, after a Japanese saturation diver sent a letter of complaint. The Tuna, or Tuna-can as watch aficionados' call it, is a watch that carries no compromises. It's either love or hate. There are countless posts on Internet about it – and some where people seem to misunderstand its importance and to discard it as an ugly watch. Many however manage to explain its main purpose and its significance seem to become hooked. I belong to the second category and I decided to take my own Seiko Tuna with me, during my summer vacations, for an in-depth review - but that's going to be the second part of this article. First, we must look back in the past and have a closer look at the history of the Seiko Tuna Prospex (Professional specifications).Seiko produced its first diver’s watch in 1965 (62-MAS). They continued in 1967 with the ref.
Panerai's desire to move up - Monochrome Watches
Panerai’s desire to move up? That’s at least what it seems like, now they’ve come with a bunch of new models featuring their new in-house movements.Over the last few months Panerai has introduced a number of new models, featuring their own new in-house movements… and a new price list. And since I’ve been planning to buy a new brother for my old PAM 00001 B series (1999), I had a good look at the new price list. Ad - Scroll to continue with article I don’t want to buy another Panerai with the same movement as my beloved old PAM 00001, which is a ETA/Unitas 6497 with reworked bridges and a much better finish. So the in-house movements sound interesting… A few weeks ago I already showed photos of one of the new Panerai models and now I finally know the price… which was a bit of a shock. As usual, my taste transcends m
Hands-On - Panerai Submersible Bronzo PAM00968 (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
Although bronze cases have become almost mainstream these days, there is one brand they will always be most associated with: Panerai. It seems fitting then that this year, as the Florentine brand establishes the Submersible as its own stand-alone collection, we see the introduction of a new Panerai Submersible Bronzo, under the reference PAM00968. Building on the legacy of its forebearers, it incorporates the new Submersible design codes unveiled at SIHH 2019 and introduces for the first time a ceramic bezel matched with bronze.Panerai debuted its 47mm bronze behemoth in 2010. Officially named Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo, this limited-edition model quickly became known by its nickname Bronzo. Proving popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike (or Paneristi, as they prefer to be called) it soon became an iconic model for the brand. It arguably also kick-started the trend for bronze watches. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
