The Auction Hammer: 3 Rare A. Lange & Sohne Watches Including an Extremely Rare Lange 1 in Stainless Steel - Monochrome Watches
A. Lange & Sohne’s history can be divided into two, or actually three, eras: one before World War II, one after Germany’s reunification, and the period in between (1945 – 1990), although the latter is actually not that interesting. On 15 November, German auction house Dr. Crott Auctions will be offering a vast number of A. Lange & Sohne watches from the two interesting periods of the brand’s history, including a Tourbillon Pour le Merite in platinum, an extremely rare stainless steel Lange 1, and a rare example of the Jubilee Langematik.?Besides these (extremely rare) contemporary pieces, there are dozens of late 1800’s and early 1900’s pocket watches from A. Lange & Sohne. Many of them offered with original box and papers, which makes them perfect investment pieces, besides that fact that they are very beautiful. At the auction you’ll also see two very rare vintage Panerai watches, a bunch of watches, including a black-dial Paul
The best watches of 2010 - Monochrome Watches
Now the year has almost come to an end it’s time to look back and to see which watches made the best impression. So here is Monochrome’s selection of Best Watches of the Year 2010. Like every year, there where many new watches. Some expected for a long time, some unexpected and a total surprise. But the question is which one made a lasting impression? Some have only been released on the drawing board, but are not completely ready yet. These watches, although some are really impressive, won’t count for this years election.Because watches come in all price ranges I can’t compare a $500,000 watch with a $1,500 watch. So there will be a few categories, based on price. The first category is without any limits, the second category is up to $200,000 , the third category is up to $15,000 and the fourth and last category is below $5,000.?The only verdict is my personal opinion ?? Sinn x The Rake and Revolution 155 Bundeswehr Dark Star - Introducing (Specs & Price)
It has become a recurring thing for magazines Revolution and The Rake to offer limited edition watches to their readers. Some of them, such as the Bell & Ross Bellytanker or the Chopard Salmon Dial, were surprisingly pleasant. Today’s collab watch goes one step further and the result is the epitome of cool. Indeed, Revolution and The Rake have teamed up with German watchmaker Sinn to present a re-edition of the legendary Bundeswehr 1550 SG, issued in a limited run of 150 pieces. Meet the Sinn 155 Bundeswehr Dark Star. The Rake’s and Revolution’s latest collaborative project was a very nice, 36mm bronze cased IWC pilot’s watch. Following this military/vintagey/pilot theme, the two magazines owned by our friend Wei Koh are presenting another flight instrument, this time in collaboration with Sinn. It is toolish, it is vintage-inspired and it is cool, simply because it is a re-edition of the famed Bundeswehr 1550 SG watch. And that’s enough to tickle our i
Piaget Polo FortyFive Two-Tones Perpetual Calendar - The hidden qualities of a sports watch - Monochrome Watches
When Piaget decided to take the legendary Polo out of its precious metal solitude they did a very thorough job. They made the case a contemporary 45mm in diameter, hence its name; Polo FortyFive. To prevent that you need serious muscle in order to wear this watch they made it from titanium. Only the famous?gadroons?are made of steel (except on the Two-Tones Perpetual Calendar). This change gives the Polo a fresh, yet still recognizable face. To make the watch even more contemporary Piaget added the option for a rubber strap (that suits the watch very well). Main attraction for this watch is of course the perpetual calendar complication. Like with all Pia
Introducing The Black Ceramic Zenith Defy Skyline & Skyline Skeleton
The Defy Skyline collection was introduced by Zenith in 2022 and offered a new interpretation of the original Defy series, aimed to improve the brand’s standing in luxury sports watches. There were 14 references in the Skyline collection so far, including a range of 36mm watches. The 41mm models, powered by El Primero 3620 high-frequency automatic manufacture movement with the 1/10th of a second indicator, including the skeleton versions, all featured octagonal steel cases with a faceted steel bezel. Today, the brand expands the offer by adding two 41mm references made in black ceramic. The new Zenith Defy Skyline Black Ceramic models, as the name implies, are presented in a black ceramic case with a mix of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. It comes with an integrated bracelet crafted from the same material. Ceramic is a tough substance, highly resistant to scratches and signs of wear, so it is a perfect choice for a watch that is supposedly worn in chal
