A. Lange & Sohne Triple Split - The New Mightier Than Mighty Chronograph (SIHH 2018) - Monochrome Watches
Several years ago I had the pleasure of reviewing the A. Lange & Sohne Double Split and called it the uber-chrono. To be clear, this has nothing to do with its functions but is entirely due to its spectacularly beautiful movement. Of course, the Double Split is the only mechanical double split-second chronograph, so that certainly demands some respect, but the movement’s architecture and finishing show a breath-taking beauty that no watch lover can ignore. And now there’s a Triple Split! Does that mean that the uber-chrono has been surpassed? Yep, it does, and… it’s limited to only 100 pieces! The Double Split is lovingly referred to, by admirers and owners of this watch, as the Mighty Double Split. It truly is mighty in so many ways. Do keep in mind that we’re still talking about mechanics here, and we are all aware that every iPhone does the same trick. But that’s not the point. The point is that some functions can be achieved by a collection of
Weekly Watch Photo - Greubel Forsey Invention Pieces - Monochrome Watches
I’ve just returned from London where I visited SalonQP. For me it an absolute blast and I think it’s the best watch fair, that is?open for the public,?that I’ve visited so far. Being in London anyway I had to use the opportunity to check out the unique pieces that many brands made for Marcus Watches. Although I’ve seen quite a few magnificent and over-impressive timepieces, the “Marcus-experience” was simply mind-blowing. But there was more, so much more… I have never seen so many top pieces gathered in one collection that it felt like visiting a true horological museum.Besides and overwhelming collection of A
The Collector's Series: a Seasoned Collector's Vianney Halter Trio - Monochrome Watches
If you spend half as much time as I do on Instagram scrolling through wrist shots you will be familiar with our next guest on the Collector Series. He goes by the name @whatmakesmetick. What attracted me to his work was the sheer volume and variety of watches on show. With a clear respect for bespoke gentlemen’s footwear and a wealth of independent watchmaking knowledge – we simply had to get him on. We caught up to discuss his Vianney Halter Trio and why it’s such a damn cool watch. When did you first get into watches ?My fascination with watches started in the early 1980s when I received one of the 1st Swatches as a present from my parents. Pre-Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Chronograph Quantieme Annuel (hands-on review with live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
It has to be said: the celerity at which Montblanc has enlarged and developed?the Heritage Chronometrie collection is impressive. In less than 2 years, we’ve seen a Dual Time, a Quantieme Complet, an Ultra-Slim, a Quantieme Annuel and even an affordable (relatively speaking) Tourbillon Chronograph. And what has to be kept in mind is that, even if Montblanc uses third-parties base movements, the complication modules are all done in-house. Now you’ll probably ask yourself when they going to stop? Not this year, as here is the new?Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Chronograph Quantieme Annuel, to be introduced at the SIHH 2016.The?Heritage Chronometrie is the core collection of Montblanc, with classically shaped watches and a goal to have complicated displays, but for accessible prices. The goal here isn’t to be ultra-high-end – this goes to the Villeret Collection, with watches like the Montblanc Tourbillon Cylindrique Geospheres?– neither to be quite original
Parmigiani Fleurier Tecnica Ombre Noir (Specs & Price)
Three of the most revered complications in Haute Horlogerie - minute repeater, tourbillon and perpetual calendar - are united in this exceptional timepiece, a unique Parmigiani Fleurier piece that retails for just under half a million Swiss Francs. The Tecnica Ombre Noire comes in a 45mm rose gold case with a splendid hand-guilloche dial. The combination of the gleaming rose gold case and the dark handsome dial is stunning, but the watch is not entirely new. In 2014, Parmigiani Fleurier launched a limited edition of five Tecnica Ombre Blanche watches – without the sumptuous guilloche dial.? The perpetual calendar functions are neatly arranged in three interconnected sub-dials with a fourth dial devoted to the one-minute tourbillon. But wait a minute, where is the slider to activate the minute repeater? Read on to find out more about this exceptional masterpiece. From the Toric to the TecnicaThe Toric holds a special place in Michel Parmigiani's heart; it was his first watch. Unvei
