Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst - Monochrome Watches
Last week we showed you the Grand Complication that A. Lange & So?hne introduced earlier this year (click here). It was Lange & Sohne’s first ‘grand complication’ but it was the second watch from this Saxon watch brand with a striking complication. The first timepiece from Lange that features a striking mechanism was the Zeitwerk Striking Time. The magnificent Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, that was introduced last year, also has something in common with the Zeitwerk, which is synthesized in the word ‘Handwerkskunst‘.During the Watches & Wonders fair that starts today, Wednesday September 25th, in Honk Kong, Lange & Sohne introduce the new Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst. ‘Handwerkskunst’ probably best translates as handwork art or the art of craftsmanship. The solid white gold dial is decorated with a rare combination of tremblage and relief engraving techniques. For the first time in a Lange timepi
The Collector's Series - Robin Nooij and His Tudor Black Bay Smiley Face
The Collector's Series focuses on a shared passion for watches. Stories from real people who tell us why they fell in love with a certain watch. This can be pretty much anything and doesn't necessarily have to be an ultra-complex, ultra-expensive, ultra-rare piece. It can also be a more widely available, attainable watch from a mainstream brand that just resonates with someone. For this, we thought we’d ask our very own contributor Robin Nooij – here on Instagram – some questions about a stand-out piece in his collection. We already knew which piece that is, but now you get to know too.Robin Nooij has been writing and working for us for about nine years now, alongside his job for a large banking company. He's been with us for a while and, as such, has witnessed all sorts of things going on around MONOCHROME. Attending Baselworld, SIHH and various other events, he’s learned about the wonderful world of watches inside out. In this journey into watchmaking, he also
Meet The Makers - Casa Fagliano, Boot-Maker And Strap-Maker for Jaeger-LeCoultre
There are many reasons we love watches. For some it's their design, for others it's their historical significance. What really caught my imagination, when I received my grandfather's 1960s Omega Constellation on my 21st birthday, was that somebody had actually sat at a workbench and assembled this micro-machine by hand. It blew my mind. Since then I've had an unrelenting appreciation for all things made by hand. My admiration only grew, as we dive deeper into a digital world where more often than not we can do things quicker and cheaper. But artisans do things for the passion, not the speed or price. They opt to do it the way it's always been done for the pride in the work. And I love that. In the first instalment of our new series: Meet The Makers, I had the privilege of sitting down with the man at the helm of legendary Argentina bootmaker, Germ¨¢n Fagliano. Enjoy. Can you tell us little about Fagliano and your history as a maker? Our Family comes from Cuneo, in the Piedmont?region (nor
First Look: The Ultra-Light Ulysse Nardin Diver (Air)
Switzerland might be landlocked, but Ulysse Nardin, a young watchmaker from Le Locle, consolidated his reputation by producing precision marine chronometers. By the 1870s, the manufacture supplied more than 50 navies and merchant marine companies with chronometers to calculate longitude at sea. These days, Ulysse Nardin plays on its marine heritage with its classical Marine collection and contemporary lineup of Divers. The brand's Diver X Skeleton collection defied logic with its robust diving credentials and radically skeletonised movement. Pushing the envelope, the latest Diver (Air) takes the concept to the extreme and is, according to the brand, the world's lightest mechanical dive watch. By combining high-tech materials and taking skeletonisation to even greater heights, the new Ulysse Nardin Diver (Air) weighs in at just 52 grams, including the strap. ?With their exposed mechanics, skeletonised watches are not usually pitched as sporty dive watches. Rowing against the tide, UN's
