Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 41mm 15500 Silver Dial (Price)
The watch that launched the luxury sports watch category and kept Audemars Piguet afloat through thick and thin since 1972 was fittingly named after a 1916 Royal Navy battleship, the HMS Royal Oak. Without delving into its genesis and well-documented history, suffice it to say that the Audemars Piguet’s flagship Royal Oak has been interpreted in countless guises over the years. The Ref. 15500, a 41mm model of the RO with an upgraded in-house movement was introduced in 2019 and designed to replace the former Ref. 15400 that had been around since 2012. Offered with blue, grey and black dials, the latest iteration of Ref. 15000 now comes with a classic silver-toned dial. Combined with the steel case, the silver dial contributes to its solid monochrome look. The blue dial version of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 41mm 15500ST, introduced in 2019 – also with black and dark grey dials. Background Ref. 15500STLargely eclipsed by the launch of AP's polarising CODE 11.59 co
Continuing our coverage of non-Swiss indepedent watchmakers.
Last week's article about indie watchmakers from all corners of the world showed that the industry doesn't solely revolve around Switzerland. And as a matter of fact, we've received some comments and did some more digging of our own and are turning it into a tryptic of articles, listing yet more watchmakers doing all sort of cool stuff. Some might be quite well-known, while others might be completely new to some of you. But that's the beauty of it, actually, and part of the reason why MONOCHROME exists in the first place. Without further ado, let's get started with Part II of the coolest non-Swiss independent watchmakers.Habring2 - AustriaOf course, we simply had to include Habring2, the Austrian-based indie watchmaking brand run by Richard and Maria Habring. We worked closely with the brand last year and presented our first-ever Montre de Souscription, which is a very proud moment for us. Richard Habring is well-known within the industry for developing the DoppelChronograph for IWC. O
First Look: The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Nonantieme Enamel
Since 1991, Jaeger-LeCoultre has marked each new decade of the Reverso with a special edition, beginning with the Soixantieme, which celebrated the model's 60th anniversary. Introduced in 1931, the Reverso remained a time-only watch until this milestone edition became the first to feature complications. A decade later, the Septantieme showcased the brand's expertise in movement manufacturing and aesthetic design. It was the first Reverso to feature an extra-large case, an 8-day power reserve, and a beautifully finished white gold movement visible through the reverse side. Fast forward to 2021, the Reverso Nonantieme marked the collection's 90th anniversary, and this year, it returns in a striking new variation, the Reverso Tribute Nonantieme Enamel.?This newest edition of the Reverso Tribute Nonantieme maintains the same 49.4mm x 29.9mm x 11.72mm pink gold case, adorned with the signature gadroons above and below the dial. Now presented in a refined grey sunray finish, the front dial r
Hands-On: The Blue Panda Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph
At the end of last week, we’ve already shared with you our first hands-on sessions with two of the latest updates to the ultra-successful Tissot PRX collection, the Ice Blue dial on the Powermatic 80 model and the long-expected addition of integrated rubber straps to the collection. That wasn’t all we’ve seen, as we have more to share. Again, it’s all about a first look, a quick hands-on session to show you the watch in the metal. Based on the already existing PRX Automatic Chronograph, available so far in silver with black counters and gold-coloured accents, or in blue with reverse panda style, Tissot now adds a third version with a silver dial and blue panda layout. And here’s what it looks like in the wild.?When released last year, the?chronograph was the first and major update to the already well-established PRX collection. Coming next to the 35mm quartz models and the 40mm quartz and Powermatic 80 editions, the Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph is by f
Weekly Watch Photo - The Christophe Claret Collection
Again an impressive manufacture that we wanted to share with you here, on Monochrome-Watches. This Weekly Watch Photo column is for us a very pleasant way to show you amazing pictures of watches, and for this week, it is quite a piece of art: Christophe Claret. The brand represents the essence of the complicated, non-compromised horology with strong design, such as the X-trem-1, gaming-oriented timepieces with the Poker Watch or modern interpretations of the classical watchmaking with, for example, the Soprano. Far away from the spotlights and the glossy displays, here are some watches of the actual collection into the nature. For those who are not familiar with Christophe Claret, a quick view on his references will unravel a bit more on its huge competencies: Ulysse Nardin, Frank Muller, Harry Winston, some collaborations with Renaud & Papi… All those names had used the skills and creativity of Claret to create complicated watches. Even if the manufacture continues to create
