Another amazing timepiece from everybody's favorite, Tissot, the Le Locle Automatique Petite Seconde is a part of their T-classic collection. This one is a rather decent-looking watch. With a black dial marked with Arabic numerals, the watch is nice to look at. In order to add durability, the creators added a stainless steel bracelet and casing. Also, water can do no harm to this piece as it comes with water-resistance, which works efficiently up to 30 meters.

Recap: A Retrospective of 2024 with our Favourite Videos
While the industry might not be in its best shape (all things considered…), 2024 was nevertheless a highly prolific year in terms of new models, with brands once again showing creativity and mechanical ingenuity. As far as things go for us here, at MONOCHROME, and specifically regarding our video production. Over the entire 2024 year, we have published over 90 videos (our record so far) on our YouTube channel, as you can see here. Many are what we call “Quick Look” or “Reviews” but we have also produced a long list of so-called “In-Depth” videos, the MONOCHROME way, where we explore the beauty of watchmaking. And here’s our selection of our best videos of the year, all dedicated to explaining this industry we love so much. The Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF and What Exactly is a High-Frequency WatchIn this video, we explore a superb watch, the Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF in titanium with a black dial. A perfect example of an elegant sports
First Look: The Salmon Dial Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tuscan Copper
The third record for thinness in the successful Octo Finissimo series?by Bulgari, the Octo Finissimo Automatic started its life in the most monochromatic and sleek attire possible – sandblasted titanium over a tone-on-tone dial, a signature look for the collection. However, since its introduction in 2017, the model has seen multiple variations of colours and materials, specifically since the introduction of the Mk2 version with its satin-brushed case and 100m water-resistance. Following our presentation earlier today of a new yellow gold edition, it’s time now to introduce the Octo Finissimo Tuscan Copper Automatic, with a colour combination that is one of our favourites. Salmon-steel for the win!Salmon dial over a steel case is a classic of the Swiss watch industry that has been around for decades. Usually the apanage of classic dress watches and vintage-inspired chronographs, it finds a spot here in the context of an edgy, ultra-thin take on the luxury sports watch, the n
Portrait: Gaga Laboratorio, Bold Italian Design Meets Swiss Precision
The current watch market is polarized and most often highlighted by the major and mainstream brands on one hand, and let’s say, all the rest on the other hand. Among the latter, on the fringes of the groups and a few independent and historical brands, a swarm of new brands has emerged in recent years to shake up what can be sometimes seen as a lethargic creative landscape. Niche brands, creators, and micro-brands, all have the particularity of claiming innovative creativity in form and – sometimes – in content. Some, for sure, stand out from the crowd because they have been able to forge a strong identity through the product, if not a manufacture created in the 18th century…Take Gag¨¤ Laboratorio for example. Gag¨¤ Laboratorio is a new independent brand, the second owned and run by Mr. Ruben Tomella beside Gag¨¤ Milano, which has been active for over twenty years. In 2020, Ruben Tomella decided to leverage the expertise of Manufacture Gag¨¤ SA, the Swiss company tha
The Flexure Revolution, Compliant Mechanisms applied to Watchmaking - Monochrome Watches
In mechanical engineering, compliant mechanisms (monolithic or joint-less structures) are flexible mechanisms that transfer an input force or displacement to another point through elastic body deformation, using the elastic properties of matter to affect the motion of mechanical components. These monolithic, compact and precise components replace several mechanically assembled parts. The absence of mechanical coupling eliminates contact, play, friction, wear, lubrication or dispersions.Compliant mechanisms have been used for decades in different fields or industries. In particular, robotics, medical or aerospace have been using such mechanisms for some 50 years now. However, the rapid growth in their applications in watchmaking is rather new. Somehow, watchmakers had made very little use of flexure until very recently. But they have now realized the amazing potential there. Compliant mechanisms offer undisputable advantages, in term of reliability and performance and as such can be a g
Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster Pacman Re-Edition Dive Watch Hands-On
A couple of weeks ago, we explored the comeback of a niche but cult brand specialised in instrument watches, Nivada Grenchen. Mostly known for its Chronomaster watch, also known as the “Super Chronograph” due to its combination of features, a look at the history of the brand reveals far more fascinating watches, pioneers in their own right. Among them is a model known as the Depthmaster, a highly original and important model in dive watch history. In addition to its chronograph, the brand?is also reissuing this piece with a quirky but very cool accessible retro-styled watch. Here’s a closer look at the Nivada Grenchen?Depthmaster, in its signature “Pac-Mac” versions.Nivada…?There are mainstream brands that most watch enthusiasts, even the most novice of us, know. And there are other brands, with true cult status that are reserved to smaller groups of seasoned and knowledgeable collectors. Nivada belongs to the latter category. The brand was founded i
