The Collector's Series - Diving deep with Mark's Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Chronographe Flyback Quantieme Complet - Monochrome Watches
When you think iconic dive watches', what comes to mind?… Submariner? Sea-Dweller? Omega Seamaster? Panerai Radiomir?… Well, the good news is you would be absolutely correct. However, you would have overlooked one heavy hitter of the watch world: the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, a watch seen by many hard-core divers as an essential tool in their armoury and by many collectors as their pride and joy. It is not just a functional watch, but a historically important one. And today we're happy to show you a very nice example,?together?with Mark and his Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Chronographe Flyback Quantieme Complet. It was back in 1953 the first commercial Fifty Fathoms was released. The watch was developed by Jacques Fiechter, Blancpain CEO at the time and an early scuba diving fan. It was later refined for French combat divers with the addition of magnetic shielding. The story begins when Captain Robert Bob Maloubier and Lieutenant Claude Riffaud, both commanders at the French C
IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month - Monochrome Watches
In 2009 IWC created the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month (ref. 3761). It was the first flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar and digital leap year display as well as a digital display for the month and date with large numerals. This development was a tour de force that has paid off: the result is a very clever way to combine a perpetual calendar and a chronograph, while maintaining the legibility of all functions. Monochrome goes hands-on with the IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month.This is probably one of the most innovative perpetual calendars on the market, because of its digital display of day, month and leap year. And totally befitting the brand and its innovative and technical character, it’s presented in a watch case made of titanium aluminide. Titanium aluminide is used widely in motorsport, because the alloy is lighter and more robust than pure titanium. The black parts of the case are made of zirconium oxide, which is another materi
The Hand-Wound Omega Speedmaster 57 40.5mm
I know… The title is voluntarily a bit provocative. In the world of watches, it’ll be hard to forget about the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It simply is one of the most emblematic and historically-important watches ever made by Omega, and by extension, the whole industry. And the latest version of the Moonwatch, the Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, is one of the best chronographs on the market. Period! However, not everybody will be attracted by this watch. Without denying the qualities of the classic Speedy, there are multiple reasons for someone to prefer something else, something different, something less consensual. Enters the Hand-Wound Omega Speedmaster 57 Chronograph Co-Axial Master Chronometer 40.5mm. And if it has the name Speedmaster printed on its dial, it certainly is a completely different take on the collection and one that has serious arguments too.The Speedmaster in its most classic version, the Moonwatch ProfessionalFor many decades now, the Speedmas
Buying Guide - Some of the Coolest Watches With Meteorite Dial
Meteorite is one of the most fascinating objects/materials you can find on Earth, even though it doesn’t come from Earth… They are pieces of debris from a comet, asteroid, or meteoroid that originate in outer space and survive their passage through the atmosphere to reach Earth’s surface. So yes, these are made from one of the only materials you can find on the surface of Earth, but that isn’t sourced from our own planet… and that is quite cool! And then comes the material itself. When it comes to using this material on dials, brands almost always use iron meteorites or ferrous meteorites that consist overwhelmingly of an iron-nickel alloy known as meteoric iron and originate from cores of planetesimals.A slice of the Gibeon meteorite - image by Christie'sMany brands have sourced the material from Gibeon, something of a ‘star’ in the world of meteorites. It hurtled through the atmosphere and crashed on Earth in prehistoric times in what is toda
