A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Annual Calendar White Gold - Review, Specs & Price
The 1815 Annual Calendar is the second complication of this genre in A. Lange & Sohne‘s current line-up. Following the launch of the Saxonia Annual Calendar in 2010 with an automatic movement and outsized date window, Lange came out with the 1815 manual-winding/analogue date Annual Calendar at the beginning of 2017. Two years might have passed, but there's no getting tired of this classic beauty. Released in pink and white gold, we had the more understated white gold model for our hands-on session.?Editor’s note: this review of the A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Annual Calendar is part of a series of three articles where we will compare two of the most desirable high-end, hand-wound Annual Calendar watches currently on the market. Two watches with the same concept, but two different flavours. The third article, which will be published after our two separate reviews, will pit them side-by-side. The Ferdinand Berthoud Chronometre FB3 SPC (incl. video)
When resurrecting the Ferdinand Berthoud name, an eminent 18th-century horologist, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and his team have shown quite a talent to surprise and amaze us. First with the Chronometre FB1, which was awarded the coveted Aiguille d'Or at the GPHG 2016, the Oscars of watchmaking. And then, with the no less spectacular, Chronometre FB2, which was awarded the Chronometry prize at GPHG 2019. For 2022, the brand starts writing its third chapter with the FB3, Atelier Berthoud which keeps the fundamental themes for the brand, in particular the focus on chronometry, on exclusivity and exceptional craftsmanship. But the FB3 is different in many respects and it pays tribute to new aspects of the brand's tradition. The Chronometre FB3 SPC is the answer to the desire from Berthoud enthusiasts to be able to wear a slightly smaller timepiece and to have a (relatively speaking) more affordable piece. The model keeps the fundamental themes for the brand, in particular chronometry, this ti

Just Because - Some of the Most Used Nicknames in Watchmaking
Like them or not, appropriate or not, nicknames have to be earned. Watches are very personal objects and they reflect an enduring connection with fans. Often, these nicknames are directly inspired by the characteristics of the watch, its shape or colours. In other cases, celebrities or a special event made a watch famous and their name has remained linked to the model forever. One thing is certain, iconic watches from cult brands earn nicknames among collectors and aficionados. Not surprisingly, these are widespread across the more popular brands ( , Seiko, Omega) while the watches from niche or high-end brands get less of these familiar monikers. Even cult Patek watches are referred to by connoisseurs with their 4-digit reference numbers, rather than their names. Here are some of the brands with the most nicknames?Note: If you can think of any other nicknames, please share them in our comment section below. We’d be delighted to expand the list. As you would expect, no other bran
