Hands-On: The A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus Chronograph
A. Lange & Sohne was never a company to overwhelm visitors to the SIHH (now Watches & Wonders) with countless new models and variations of the past references. The Saxon brand always sends a clear message about what the launch of the year is with a huge replica of the essential new product welcoming you right there at the entrance to the ALS booth. The giant replica displays the correct time and date but also makes a statement: here at Lange, we are all about making watches, and not marketing stunts, with supercars and aeroplanes and fancy displays – an obvious hint to neighbouring exposants. This year the Saxon watchmakers went minimal and decided to introduce just one new reference – a costly limited-edition Odysseus Chronograph in stainless steel.?The original A. Lange & Sohne Odysseus, as presented in 2019, with weekday and date – note that the new chronograph feels very similar in style and display…We mention stainless steel right here first, be
SIHH 2015 - Introducing the A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, Featuring a Decimal Minute Repeater (Specs and Price) - Monochrome Watches
On this first day of the SIHH we are already blown away by the vast amount of extremely impressive time pieces, and the new Lange & Sohne is no exception. The ‘normal’ Zeitwerk, as introduced in 2009, was in itself a magnificent masterpiece with most likely the easiest (ergonomically) way to read the time on a mechanical timepiece. A year later the German brand presented the Zeitwerk Luminous, and in 2011 the Zeitwerk Striking Time saw the light of day. Today we can show you the newest and most impressive of the Zeitwerk family, the A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, with a very special minute repeater! The ‘special’ minute repeater is a so-called decimal repeater, something that by my knowledge only Kari Voutilainen and Credor (although it is a spring-drive system and thus has a quartz crystal as regulator) have implemented in a wrist watch. Voutilainen’s?Decimal Repeaters are among the most coveted timepieces ever created. And yes, I lust
Weekly Watch Photo - A. Lange & Sohne Still Lifes - Monochrome Watches
This week we’ll start with some rather unusual watch photos, or should I say pieces of art. The photos that we present you today are made by A. Lange & Sohne’s forum moderator at Timezone.com, Edwin. A few weeks ago we used some of his photos of the A. LAnge & Sohne Richard Lange Pour le Merite and today we’ll show you some 16th and 17th century style still lifes featuring Edwin’s Datograph, Lange 1 and the mighty Double Split.Last week’s photographer, GEO, was probably one of the very first to share extremely stylish photos of his watches. Edwin, who started a bit later, is probably one of the best amateur still life photographers that we came across. Although it is weird to call this amateur level. The photos we showed you the other week were still lifes with food, today’s photos are still lifes in the style of the 17th century Dutch masters, like Ambrosius Bosschaert, Balthasar van der Ast, or 18th century French painter Anne Vallayer-Cost
