Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Tadao Ando Black Ceramic hands-on
Time has many faces. Acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando envisions time as a spiral that winds in a continuous and gradually widening curve around a central point. In his first collaboration with Bvlgari in 2019, Ando represented the inexorable passing of time with a mesmerising spiral engraved on the dial of the Octo Finissimo Automatic emanating from the off-centred seconds hand. In line with the dial’s stark minimalism, there were no hour markers, numerals or logos on the first Octo Finissimo collaboration piece.? Bearing the same technical specifications and case design of the record-breaking Octo Finissimo Automatic, this year, Ando has created a dial inspired by Mikazuki, the Japanese term for a crescent moon, or the moon on the third day of the lunar month'.Tadao AndoJapanese architect Tadao Ando (Osaka, 1941) is revered as a national treasure in Japan. Renowned for his minimalist concrete structures, Ando infuses his architecture with Japanese cultural and religious i
The Clear and Rich Sound of the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Minute Repeater - Monochrome Watches
What do you do when you pass by the new boutique of a beautiful watch brand? Of course, you ring the bell and wait until they open the door. I happened to be in Amsterdam the other day, and passed by the recently opened Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique. To my surprise they had two Master Minute Repeaters present - that's a rare occasion - and I took at out the camera to show you one of the best sounding minute repeaters on the market. In the past year the Amsterdam high-end shopping street Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat - now already nicknamed the Golden Half Mile – has become a true watch-lovers mecca. The number of mono brand boutiques of luxury brands – not only of watch brands – have popped up rapidly, and created a magnificent place for watch lovers and tourist alike. When you're in Amsterdam, don't miss this place, which is located at a stone throw away from the important museums (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum), the beautiful Vondelpark, and the main s
First Look: The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 Green
IWC is busy this year rolling out new iterations of its Ingenieur, a collection that underwent a major revamp in 2023 to resurface with its Gerald Genta heritage intact. The watch we're introducing today comes with a fun story involving actor Brad Pitt and the upcoming movie F1. What was initially a prop watch for Pitt's character has inspired the real deal: a special 1,000-piece edition of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a green dial.Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 is one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. Shot with actors driving real race cars in real Grand Prix races, Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), an F1 driver, has retired after an accident. Team owner Ruben (Javier Bardem) encourages Sonny to return to the track to mentor a rookie driver for the Apex Grand Prix Team. During the film, Sonny wears a 1976-inspired Ingenieur SL 1832 with a bespoke green dial. A collaboration between IWC, Pitt and Cloister Watch Company, the prop watch is now a reality. Hands-On: Ready for the Olympics, The Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024
The 2024 Paris Olympics, which will start later this week, mark 92 years of Omega‘s legacy as the official timekeeper for the Games. Since 1932 and for the 31st time, the Omega Timing team, with its unparalleled expertise, extensive personnel, and tons of equipment, will support the competing athletes. To truly grasp the extent of Omega’s involvement and the cutting-edge technology they bring to the table in 2024, I urge you to delve into “the insane technology behind the timekeeping role,” as detailed by Frank Geleen earlier this month. This technology, including a Quantum Timer with a resolution of one-millionth of a second, might seem far removed from modern mechanical chronographs. Still, the connection to sports timing remains clear and exhilarating.Omega track and field starting blocks with built-in sensorsThis brings us to the new and exciting Paris Olympics 2024 versions of the Speedmaster Chronoscope. Initially introduced in 2021, these timepieces featu
First Look: The Kauri Regulateur Carbone, A Modern Retrograde Minute & Jumping Hour Regulator
Kauri is an independent watchmaking brand recently founded by Samuel Gillioz. This young watchmaker studied at the ecole d'Horlogerie de Geneve before gaining experience at Timelab and Vacheron Constantin in the highly respected Cabinotiers workshop. In 2019, Samuel Gillioz launched Kauri with the vision of creating something unique and original. The main specificity of his first model was its case, which combined steel and wood. The second model advances in complexity, retaining the distinctive case concept – this time with a carbon-based material – while introducing a movement featuring an in-house designed and manufactured complication, a regulator with jumping hours and retrograde minutes. Meet the Kauri Regulateur Carbone.Samuel Gillioz set up his small atelier in Plan-Les-Ouates in a building between the HQs of Vacheron Constantin, Piaget and Frederique Constant. There, he works with his machines, a Schaublin 102 lathe from 1949 and an Aciera F1 milling machine from 1
