The Petrolhead Corner: A Pair Of Exquisite Jaguar Cars
Jaguar is one of the great British car manufacturers, perhaps only rivalled by Aston Martin when it comes to style, class, and heritage. It started out as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, making motorcycle sidecars before moving into the production of cars in the mid-1930s, with the first-ever car being the SS Jaguar 2.5L Saloon. For obvious reasons, the SS name wouldn’t stick for long, as immediately after WWII, the company’s name was changed to Jaguar. The brand has a very rich history both on the road and in racing, winning Le Mans no less than seven times, for instance. Many cars can be called iconic, and just recently, two of those made headlines in the automotive industry!?The contrast couldn’t be bigger between the two, as on one end, we have a pure handcrafted beauty in the Jaguar Classic E-Type Commemoratives, and on the other, we have a concept-car-turned-stunt-car-turned-road-car in the Callum Designs C-X75. The story of the latter is rather unexpected,
Buying Guide - A selection of small seconds watches
One of the most classical displays in watchmaking is the time-only watch with small seconds. Originating from the early days of watchmaking, more specifically pocket watchmaking, this display shows only hours, minutes and seconds. But that doesn’t mean such a watch should be considered boring. Quite the opposite in fact, as there is a real abundance of styles available. Classical Calatrava-styled watches? No problem. Sporty credentials? Yes, that’s possible too. Stone dials? If that’s your thing, why not! These five watches show you that small seconds watches can be just as versatile as far more complex ones.the sporty one – Nomos club sport neomatik 37We start things off with one of the latest watches to be presented in this classical layout, with central hour and minute hands and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The Nomos Club Sport Neomatik 37 comes (unsurprisingly) in a 37mm stainless steel case with a sporty look and specifications to back it up
Introducing: The New and Updated Oris Aquis Chronograph
The latest Oris Aquis Chronograph doesn't reinvent the wheel and certainly doesn't need to, but it brings a welcomed refresh to the Aquis chrono that follows in the footsteps of the updated 2024 Aquis Date. A noticeable visual change is the arrangement of the three sub-dials, now in a smiley face format (as Oris puts it) also known as tri-compax. Previous Aquis chronographs are known to be large at 46mm (with a height of over 18mm), so the tamed dimensions of this new model are definitely more mainstream.?The stainless steel case is 43.5mm in diameter and about 17mm in thickness, which is still far from compact but surely more wearable than before, and the unidirectional rotating bezel has a blue ceramic insert. A double-domed AR sapphire crystal protects the dial and there's a mineral glass exhibition case back. An expansive guard partially covers the screw-down crown and pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock, and water resistance is rated at 300 metres. The watch comes fitted with a tapered thr
Spotted - The ice blue PRX Powermatic 80 Tissot is quiet about
The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 has been a smashing success for about two years now. Ever since it was first launched, people embraced it with open arms. Here was a luxury stainless steel sports watch with very good looks, solid mechanics, a very decent price tag, and above all; it was and still is widely available! And although Tissot doesn’t always deliver what we want or expect, the PRX collection is home to quite some colourful and mechanical variations! One new colour we spotted online and apparently on people’s wrists just now is a very tasty ice-blue PRX Powermatic 80! And believe it or not, for the time being, Tissot itself is dead-silent about it. Nevertheless, it’s news, it’s available, so we’re covering it!To be perfectly clear, besides the dial colour, absolutely nothing has changed between this one and all the dial variations that came before it. It still has a 40mm by 10.8mm stainless steel case with the very familiar 1970s integrated design. Th
