A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 and Saxonia Collections with Blue Dials (Specs, Availability & Price)
Blue dials have been one of the major trends of the watch industry for the past 2 to 3 years. As we’ve often saad: “blue is the new black“. Yet, the exercise isn’t that simple. Blue is a complex colour and, while some watches with blue dials were noticeable, many others failed to nail the right dosage of enthusiasm.?A. Lange & Sohne, a brand known not to follow the trends, took its time to jump on the moving train, yet it now comes with such coloured dials on 4 emblematic watches: the Lange 1, the Lange 1 Daymatic, the Saxonia and the Saxonia Automatic – but beware, these won’t be available in large numbers, neither for a long period. At first, you might think that the addition of blue dials to the?A. Lange & Sohne collection is a real novelty. You might think, in a quite justified way, that blue dials are extremely rare at Lange, and indeed, the current collection doesn’t comprise a single blue dial watch. There are dozens of silvery-wh
The Collector's Series - Kristian Haagen about the Patek Philippe Nautilus (including a ultra-rare Chronograph ref. 5980/1A Tiffany Dial) - Monochrome-Watches
Many would describe it as the ultimate sports watch. The Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980/1A, affectionately known by some as the Jumbo Chronograph, has it all. Heritage, elegance and complication. Today, we'll be able to discover the pleasure of owning such a masterpiece (an not the classical edition, but probably the rarest one). This is not Kristian Haagen's first time on the Collector's Series, as we previously discovered the story behind his Datograph Perpetual Grey Dial. We are delighted to welcome him back to discuss a watch he described to me as his coolest! We find out how he came to own several Patek Philippe Nautilus watches, including his Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980/1A with a white Tiffany dial (yes, that's what makes the difference between a cool and an ultra-cool watch) as well as what he anticipates from Patek in the future. When the Nautilus was first launched in 1976, it featured an ultra thin mechanical automatic winding movement, calibre
Weekly Watch Photo: Tudor Black Bay Blue - Monochrome Watches
Shortly before Baselworld started this year, we tried to predict what Tudor would be presenting at?the world’s biggest watch show. Our prediction was not spot on, however the watches presented by Tudor (the Tudor Black Bay ref. 79220B and the Tudor Ranger ref. 79910) were even better than what we imagined. Especially the Black Bay with Midnight Blue bezel. That one was ‘talk of the town’ among the watch press for the entire week that Baselworld lasts. Photographer Vincent Lions also loved this watch and immediately ordered one, when he saw the first photos appear online. Lucky for us, because he made some splendid photos that we can share with you. It was this photo, with the Tudor Black Bay in the water, that caught our attention and moreover, the drawing of how the entire set-up that was necessary to make this photo. I never knew how much work it actually is to make such a photo, and honestly, I always imagined this is often more photoshop work than old-fashioned ph
Rado True Square Interpreted by Famous Designers - Monochrome Watches
When it comes to classical watches with complications, Rado is probably not your first port of call. However, if you are in the market for a trendy design-led watch, made of cutting-edge materials, Rado is an attractive option. Couple that with famous designer names, and you might well be looking at a contemporary piece of wristwear art. Renowned for its innovative use of high-tech ceramic and minimalist, contemporary design, Rado is no stranger to collaborations. Judging by the long and illustrious list of artists and designers the brand has attracted - Konstantin Grcic, Jasper Johnson, Leslie Chan, Ayako Suko, Bethan Grey, etc. – it might well be the brand with the most prolific input from external designers.? Since 2020, the emblematic True Square model has also received the ‘international designer treatment’. The latest model to join the True Square family is the Over the Abyss watch made in collaboration with New Delhi artist duo Jiten Thurkal and Sumir Tagra. In
SIHH 2018 - Christian Selmoni of Vacheron Constantin, On The New Collection - Monochrome Watches
Yesterday, we told you about the brand new FIFTYSIX collection from Vacheron Constantin, which can be considered the brand's first major foray into entry-level pieces (relatively speaking). In this video, live from SIHH 2018, Christian Selmoni, Artistic Director of Vacheron Constantin tells us a bit more about what inspired the FIFTYSIX collection, as well as some of the other models the Maison will be introducing this year.As Brice highlighted in yesterday's article, when you think of Vacheron Constantin you don't generally associate the name with entry-level (aka affordable) timepieces. Founded in the mid-eighteenth century, Vacheron Constantin is one of the oldest watchmakers in the world and is well-known for its highly praised, exceptionally complicated timepieces created in precious metals using traditional techniques. Even well-established brands have to move with the times, however, and Vacheron Constantin is no exception. The brand is keen to attract new a new generation of wa
